It is the smell of sewage backing up into my basement...

Ah yes, this weekend I was supposed to have celebrated my 14th wedding anniversary as well as my daughter's birthday. Where do you think I spent most of the time? No, not with my family and friends drinking beer and relaxing. I spent it in my basement with a guy name Sandy. Not that there is anything wrong with that name but this plumber was the biggest yahoo I have ever seen. Not sure if he actually got any professional plumbing training. I had to tell him what to do and in the end he charged me $360 for it. I think I have been had!

Well, the weekend is over, the party came and went and I am stuck with a stinky basement. Wife is freaking out and said she can't clean it up so it is up to me to get rid of the mess. Luckily, only a small area of my basement was affected but this is just completely gross!

The joys of owning a house...

I am sorry, just had to vent a little bit.

That really Stinks Marty. I under stand how you feel - sorta - I have had my share of wet basements, just never sewage related. Maybe a little steam cleaning would be in order?

Ah, for a moment I thought the correct reply to your question would be: "Bode Miller's lack of performance in the Torino Games, followed by his beyond-pathetic attempts to explain it away."

But seriously, Marty, that totally sucks. Almost makes my 2-kids-with-Rotavirus-experience(ever had two kids projectile vomit in your face & ear not just once but THRICE in one night? I don't recommend it...) pale in comparison. Almost.

Hope things start looking up, man. And yeah, venting (pun intended) is DEFINITELY in order!

$360?!?! USD!?!?! Marty Marty Marty...
Damn...
Give you a tip. Let the fun stuff sit until it dries... Then use a shovel (or crowbar;)
And if you come across a boy named Sue or whatever then run him outta town...
I plumb, and if I had to be told how to handle the problem I'd quit (or pretend I already knew somehow...
Gotta learn how to charge liike a wounded bull LOL :-)
Good luck!
P.S. We don't have basements here in Oz, so most of the time problems occur outside
Cheers

Bummer,. Marty. I've had my share of water in the besement problems over the years, the worst when a sump pump died during a heavy spring thaw and we had to use buckets and mops to get the water up all the while our late Jessie thought it was just so much fun to run and romp around and play in the water! :-)
Anyway, sounds like you need the services of Winston Rothchild's Sewage and Septic Sucking Services though I don't know if he makes house calls from Possum Lake, Ontario to Southbridge. :-)
On a serious note, look up restoration services. A friend of mine from Westfield does that for a living and there are professional means to clean these problems up.

Marty, Bleach Everything!!! Don't screw around with raw sewage. That stuff can kill you if your not carefull. Bleach Bleach Bleach.

Sorry it happened. Its happened to both neighbors of mine, I know my day is coming, we live on a high pressure system on this mountain. When it happens, it happens big time. We've all got valves in our yards to stop it. That is, if the valve works after ten-twenty years of not touching it.

Thanks guys!

Things are once again under control. I took a day off from work and spent it scrubbing the bleaching my basement. I am glad it is over. Now, I just need to come up with some sort a maintenance plan for my pipes.

This was an extremely unpleasant experience.
