Hey everyone
Allow me one question if you will. I'm back in the hobby now for a little under 4 months. I've started from scratch buying everything needed to build decent models a litlle at a time. In 4 months I have spent right at $2,000.00 on paint, glues, kits, airbrushes, etc.
I've figured out that after the initial costs of the AB and a few other "one time" purchases I'm still spending around $200.00 per month.

Question: How much on average do you guys and girls spend on building models in a month?

ps. Does anyone have a downstairs apartment I could rent in the future? SWMBO is gettin' mighty hacked at me lately about the models.

$2k in 4 months!!!!!!!! Even $200 per month? Wow, I feel guilty spending more that $30 per month, course I've been doing that for over 20 years.

I agree. That's why lately I've been trying to spend half my money on kits and the other half on paints. :-)

Took my wife with me to the LHS the other day and went straight to the 1/24 scale aircraft section. The cheapest kit there is like $120.00. I said "see honey, I don't buy the good stuff.....I only buy the little dinky 1/48 kits that only cost $25.00." That seemed to cool her down a bit.

hehe... (as I glance at the "wall of Models" behind me). Always tell her you got it "on sale." That seems to negate any price to women. My Hausfrau thinks I haven't paid retail on a model in at least 10 years! (and I suppose I "believe" she hasn't paid full price on an outfit or pair of shoes in the same 10 years )

Oh well, it works for us.

Take a look at this thread from the General Modelling DG for a previous discussion along these lines

I've been very good since then, with only Miliput and plastic card on the purchase list.

Hi Guys

my spending habits don't really follow any patterns. I normally buy by projects. I get an idea, sketch it out and try to figure what I'm going to need. Then I go from there. the only problem is when I start buying for more than one idea at a time. It can go anywhere from $10 a order to $75. I'm single. but $200 a month would still make me homeless pretty quick.

Today my oldest son scored 14 points in his basketball game. So....after the game we went to the LHS to buy him a model (our little way of celebrating). While in the store I bought him a $9.00 model plane............then I purchesed another $35.00 worth of crap that I thought I just couldn't do without.

This is ridiculous. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves for talking me into this model building frenzy.
