@ 2000 & 0000: The Christmas Truce
WWI began in August 1914, and by December all thoughts of quick victory had faded. Fighting was most fierce in a thin strip of land called the Western Front. A system of trenches separated Allies from Germans, with the area in between known as No Man's Land. On Christmas Eve, an astonishing event began--up and down the Western Front, Allied and German soldiers met peacefully in No Man's Land. Actor Ioan Gruffud narrates a 2-hour look at the fabled Christmas truce, filled with eyewitness accounts. TV G
Personally, I think this is an awesome story ; What do you think?

Yes it's an amazing event, they apparently exchanged rations and cigarettes and some accounts have them playing ball games too, although that may be an exaggeration. The sad part about it is that some of the soldiers involved in the incident were later shot by firing squad for colluding with the enemy. which is especially cruel considering that they were mainly recruited under the illusion that it was all going to be 'a big adventure' that would 'all be over by Christmas'. Little did they know about the advances in artillery, aircraft and other military equipment which made the horrors of trench warfare such a feature of that conflict.
An even more amazing WW1 tale is the so called 'Angel of Mons' in which many soldiers claimed to have seen angels on the battlefield and a platoon of soldiers supposedly were taken away by them!
