Im not sure if anyone has tried this. Why not apply it on some left over sprues and see how it turns out. The only way is to experiment. Who knows, you may discover yet another method that no one else have come across.

Don't under any circumstances apply any linseed oil based product over paint etc. unless you want an oily covering because that is exactly what it is and that is what you will get. All-in-al a dust magnet.Klear [Future] is a plastic/acyrilic based product that forms, in theory a hard shiny surface made in particular for vinyl floors and similar products.
People have been using it for years as part of their preparation for applying decals as a cheap alternative to specific products such as decal solutions.
Klear is a good product. I got mine from Countdown eons ago.

Just got to the Supermarket and buy future (Johnson's kleer in NZ), its less than $10 for a big bottle. Future is an acrylic varnish, Linseed oil is just that, oil. It's used for treating wood, where it soaks in. The results would be about as good if you used cooking oil.
