Hi,

I have just airbrushed my TKS tankette in Tamiya German grey acrylics. Before I did that I have applied some pre-shading with Black acrylics.
As I (obviously) want to continue now with washes, dry brush, weathering, filters, I was wondering what should I do first (in what order?)

Thanks in advance!

There's not a strict rule about it. I prefer to go like this:
- filters (if needed)
- selective wash
- dry brush
I prefer to do this way because none of the passages will affect the previuos one...

I'd be extra careful with the filters at this stage, especially the mixture of thinner to paint. Mixing too much of the latter into the mixture could potentially waste your pre-shading efforts.

I would do a gloss coat, pin wash followed by dry brushing, weathering and then matt coat. You can add the filter only if you feel your colours are too contrasting but its not a must.

Looking forward to seeing your photos.

Hi if you look in the painting forum back on march 4, 2005 Al Lafleche has a good note on the order of these things. Here is his summary:

1. Assemble sub assemblies
2. Prime
3. Preshade
4. Paint
5. Combine sub assemblies
6. Post shade
7. Gloss coat
8. Decals
9. Wash
10. Dry brush
11. Dull coat

It's worth finding the note though, as there is a big set of text with further explanation. I'd post the whole thing but then it would look like plagiarism :-)

the method that I find most realistic is by dipping a small offcut of the scouring pad found on the back of the combination washing up scourer/sponge and dip this in a small amount of the required colour. Then blot off the excess on a piece of kitchen paper or toilet tissue. have a few practice runs first....but all you do then is dab it on the vehicle in areas that wear. This method creates great realistic marks with practice.
Finish up with some bigger marking and rust stains with a brush and a little drybrushing if required and once fully dry and cured blend in with filters, washes and pigments as you desire.

Hope this helps as an example on a started model.

End result on a beat up vehicle

It has to be applied logically, ie. as to areas of most wear...That said, the bottom line here is make it look RANDOM...
Best of luck

Yes, I think I will try out some options and see what gives the best results.

What color filter should I apply for German blue to lighten up the (heavy washed) model?
