I thought this little item would be of some interest to some folks, especially those who live down in "Oz." It's a copy of the pocket guide given to US servicemen who were going to Australia in WWII.
I particularly liked this passage.
"Not so long ago in a Sydney bar an American soldier turned to an Australian next to him and said "Well, Aussie, you can go home now. We've come over to save you". The Aussie cracked back, "Have you? I thought you were are refugee from Pearl Harbour"

Nothin ya yank B*****d, you lot are still over payed, over sexed, and over here! :-)
Seen that book many a time, it's pretty spot on, apart from a few things that dont hold true to today, but if anything it gives you a small insight to our countries history.
Cheers

I can just see a massive brawl resulting from this comment i reckon.
I rank this as high as the comment made by one of my mates to an Aussie which was " Do you have a tendency to steal?" referring to when australia was just a land for convicts. lestweforget

Oh that's it!
:-)
Yeah you dont have to be shackled though unfortunately Britain has twice in the last 10 years, sent us psychotic murderers that they deemed unfit to live in the UK (due to the fact that their faces were well known, and the government felt that they would be killed by vigilante's, or relations of the victims, and the fact that they were psychotic murderers, and just didn't want them in their country anymore) so they had their names changed and got sent here, lucky us hey
And Oi! Our Wallabies are fantastic, well, were, this year saw the end of their rein in my eyes, i don't think they'll ever be as good as they were, what with their coach being fired and George about to throw it in.
Cheers

I was thinking the same thing, but I figured the "lingo" might have changed over the last 60 year or so.
