i have taken the dive, and so far its been just need to repairs. barv has counseled me, just jump in and do it reb!!!!!!!!!

what i had happen is that a hinge pin on the m113 engine cover was missing, or had broken off. i used a scalpel point to drill a hole in the hinge. then clipped the point off of a safety pin, inserted thru the body hinge hole, and glued in place. the engine cover is able to raise and lower as planned now....

thanks for the support barv!!!!!!!!!!!!!

will send pics or postem as i get em for my wee attempt to get it better...

It only gets better with time. Next you will want to make duplicate parts from the kit. Fenders, etc

Hi Reb
I see that "evil" barv has turned another one to the "dark side". Be careful. Since I first met barv on this site, my head has been filled with sheets, strips and rods of styrene for ongoing projects. I'm getting ready for my first serious scratch now, and it is all barvs fault!
:-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Cheers
Erik

PS: If you haven't allready figured it out, Steve (barv) is one of the really great guys around here. I have learned a lot from this "Grand Master of Scratch building".

Apparently the scratch building bug doesn't want to bite me! I've tried that blasted sprue-stretching so many times I've given up hope!

took some practice for me too mebm, i just brought the sprue in and out of the heat with a real steady gentle pull, and after i got it to where i wanted it, i held onto the sprue for 30 more seconds so it cooled and formed back to its original hardness, then used scalpel to score where i wanted the break.

this was after about a dozen attempts. or so
and hope to do better next time..........hang with it, and pray alot...

Hi all
So there's another converted to the dark side.
If my old dad (Barv) is the new Darth Vader does that make me the new Luke Skywalker after all those years learning my model building under him ?
:-) :-) :-)

Steve C Jnr (SAS007)

P.S. will never be as good though , still learning

Hah, check out the FV432 post lurking in a suspiciously nonchalant manner around the darker corners of "latest posts".

I think Steve's going to give some of us a real headache for the next few months.

I'm not complaining... Yet....

Thanks BARV, The scale suddenly makes a lot of sense now. I suspect little four year old Son has been at my computer again. The 40 odd sites open in Explorer makes me just a little bit suspicious.

Now, to stupid question no 2: #:-)

What do I need to build this thing? I know I need plastic card of some type and width and plastic stick of some kind.. PlasticStrut?.. of various widths/ lengths?

I have built about 20 models since 1982. 14 of which have been in the last 12 months... Some aren't finished yet and are in various stages of build. They will be finished as time and ingenuity allows.

Scratch building isn't "the dark side". It's standing on the edge of the cliff and looking into a deep, dark hole.

Willing to give a go though.

Oh BARV, and you thought this would be easy? :-)

--When the pics come back I will set out all the bits that I think you will need --yes 10 thou----20thou ---30/40thou ---platic card --rods -tubes ---250th square ----but not to worry ---will set it out for you :-) :-) :-)
Who said it was easy-----its "FUN"

Um, aye, I've started... Sort of...

I bought some styrene sheets today and some small square rods. I've spent a couple of happy hours measuring and cutting some flat bits out of the styrene sheet.

I'm about to glue them together with the rods as "fasteners" into a rectangular box shape.

After that I'm going to sit and have a couple beers, look at the pics and your scale drawing again and try and figure out what the &%$ to do next. :-)

I can "see" what I want to do in my head... What I can't figure out is how to tell the styrene what I want.

Here's my first attempt.

Cool!

I'm happy with that. If I can build this (at the Guru's guidance) I'll have no more modelling fears... :-)
