K we all have our opinion but this is driving me crazy!!!!! Which is a better sport, Rugby or football. Everyone plays football but those who have played rugby prefere it, which is your favourite.

By football, I presume you mean what we, on this side of the pond call soccer, where only the goalie gets to use his hands legally.
While I don't know the rules of rugby all that well, it appears to me the those athletes have to be even tougher than either of the footballers.

I am more a football person than a rugby person.
Though I can not understand why some play a rugby variant, in kevlar body armor, and call that football ( especially since the 'ball' is rarely played by foot ).

Why..because in real football, without the kevlar( as some are fond of calling it) I'm afraid we would never make it to the second game..no one would be alive to continue. Where else do you see 250 pound men run head- on into each other at maximum velocity? Oh and 250 pounds would be considered a light weight.

Morning Gentlmen..,
we are told by people that play and follow the round ball game, that it is the world game,..
but the sport of Rugby Union is the worldly sport, as it is commom knowlege by those follow and play that our game, that our game Rugby Union is played in heaven....
If one had watched the All Blacks V England and how against the odds, men short , the All Blacks meet head on and drove back those English time and time again and then to stand over them as the winners at the last whistle, ... that was pure Heaven !!!........

Phil.......

Football (Soccer) is played mostly at professional level by a bunch of overpaid prima-donnas who think that they are God's gift to humanity and anything less than £50000 a week isn't worth getting out of bed for. At grass roots level though it's a great game needing fitness and discipline.
Rugby is a game for thugs. I was forced to play it at school, and was only allowed to stop when my uncle suffered a broken neck from a bad tackle.!!!

Rugby League is probably the toughest game on the planet and the players only get paid a fraction of the wages soccer players pick up.
Im afraid Rugby takes a back seat in the toughness test, to hurling, which is totally amateur. Hurling would also be considered one of the most highly skilled sports as well.
Tackling with sticks, boots, knees and fists is not for the fair of heart!
On the rugby versus football issue ... Id go for football. Never saw much rugby until I met my wife who comes from Llanelli in Wales. I saw my first live rugby game last new year ... Llanelli versus Newport, and was well impressed though. Rugby live, cannot be compared to rugby on TV IMO.

Hi

I think in rugby it comes pretty close.
And Frank is right ...Hurling is like WW3 on a field ...amazing game.
I'm more football (soccer) orientated but prefer watching a good game of rugby to a poor football one.
And as a lad from Wigan, which is a rugby league town traditionally I still like soccer better overall.
Cheers
Peter

I loath football with a passion that can only be imagined. I live just outside Cas Vegas (aka Castleford) in the grim North. As an old mining town Rugby League is the game of choice.
Now, what you have to remember is that there are two forms of Rugby played in the UK. League (the traditional Northern version and Union the Southern version masquerading as a game). It’s not like the two leagues in baseball where the game is the same apart from the DH rule, the two Rugby codes, to give them the correct term, are two completely different games – different points scored, different number of players, and very different rules. Sadly when most people refer to “rugby” they will mean Union (especially BBC news), which I feel is a shame as League is simply the best game on the Earth, apart from baseball

Hi al
I must say being a Welshman go with Rugby Union / Leauge and i played rugby for well over 20 years and really loved it.
As for big guys there are some huge ruby players look at some of the All Black from New Zealand Joe Alumo for one frigging huge as Mike Catt what its like to tackle him..lol. As a full back and winger i can speak from first hand experience what its like to see huge guys bearing down on you and thinking if he hits me at this angle i am going to be in the commentry box ...lol lol
I used to love watching youth rugby as i i do watching youngsters playing any sport i feel its the game at its purist level.
I must say that the rugby that comes out of the Southern hemisphere is consistantly awesome.
Soccor sadley too much money to big egos as we saw with football recently with T.O. of Phillidelphia E its about being part of a team i just imagine behaving like that when playing rugby no matter how good you were you would 1, not be picked and 2. sat on the bench end of story.
Cheers Chris
Well done NZ in the recent games did not see any but i can imagine.

I have tried to watch a few rugby and soccer games on tv. I think I need to sit with someone who knows the game.
I am totally bored with soccer in what seems to be a field way too big with little action. It almost appears to be little coordination (I know this isn't the case but being an outsider I can't see it) with a bunch of guys booting the ball around without touching each other like dainty ballerinas.
Rugby seems to be a little more to my taste but once again I'm not understanding the game.

Myself, I prefer Rugby, but League comes second. To be honest i have never been a big fan of Soccer.
Derek, One Great All black Captain Buck Shelford had one of his essential family jewels ripped out while playing the French
A guy from school played the first half of a secondary school rugby game with a broken arm too!!
