Depends on your time online - DSL is faster, more reliable and cheaper if you spend more time online.

I have a 2mbit/512bit and is "always" online. Easy, convenient and you dont have to remember to sing of to save on the bill.

Marc,

If you can, get cable instead. I have cable at home - it is waaay better than DSL. We have a T1 line here at work with only 4 people using it and it pales in comparison with my cable connection at the house. Anything is better than dial up, regardless.

I ust switched to cable, getting a good deal combining digital phone and internet with Comcast. Just a few dollars a month more than I was paying for local, longdistance and AOL. between the modem's connecting time and loading AOL's graphics intensive front page, it could be as much as 5 minutes on a bad day to even get to my first site. If I was going ot be on a while, I could amortize that into the session, but when I'd just be looking up one quick thing, that was really annoying. Now, it's click the IE icon and that's instantly open. Click the Weatherbug icon and the radar map is on the screen! One of Major Goose's muli-picture threads loads in a couple seconds. Sending a half dozen 2.1 mp pictures would take several minutes on dial up, now, they're gone so fast. it's a bit scary! :-)

DSL! DSL! DSL! We switched a couple of years ago, and couldn't believe how much better it was. The difference in speed is fantastic. Of course, I'm not the one who pays the bills. :-)

Dial-up speed is limited to the bandwidth regular telephone line w/c is approx. 33Kbps ++. I would suggest you convert to DSL or Cable faster and cheaper.

I honestly feel sorry for anyone still on dial-up. I have been off it for probably 7 years and honestly cannot even fathom ever having to go back on it. If I had to switch back to dial-up I would probably opt for no Internet at all. Dial-up vs. DSL/Cable is like night and day. Even the slow DSL (768Kbs) is ligh years beyond dial-up.

Well, I guess what I am trying to say is GET DSL! It's a no-brainer.

Here in NC TimeWarner offers a two in one cable package for internet and cable that's real cheap. But I use AOL DSL, and it is like "grease lightning."

If you can afford the extra expense for the DSL...Get it..You will be soo much happier with it than dial up. And i can speak from experience as a former dial up user...As much time as i spend online..i think i would rather go without food and water..than have my high speed connection taken away..hehe..
