Is there any type of putty I could buy from Michaels that would be good for filling in gaps? I cant find any good hobby shops that are close to me and the only place I can think of is Michaels. I will be going there later today to get some xacto blades and CA glue and I can go ahead and get some kind of putty.

You could use auto body putty from the parts store. Also the CA glue will work if you use an accelerator.

Im guessing the accelerator just lowers the time it takes to dry. If they dont have that at Michaels would just CA glue be ok?

Ive seen members use white correction fliud as a filler for gaps which is a cheap alternative for putty. Another good alternative is the same filler used in the bathroom to cover up cracks in the walls etc although that dries up and has a rubbery texture to it.

You can try CA glue but i would advise testing it on a scrap piece of plastic first and see how it turns out when dry. Ive seen some peel off on plastic when dry while others stick well.

I bought some regular super glue from Michaels and it seems to be working ok for filling in gaps. The only problem I am seeing is that it is taking a really long time to dry because I am applying a lot. I still plan on purchasing some squadron putty from Squadron.com along with a few other things.

Blake - You'll be doing yourself a big favor, picking up the Squadron Putty. You may wish to get some Mr Surfacer to go along with it as well. http://www.squadron.com/SearchResults.asp?ScaleList=everything&TypeList=everything&ManuList=everything&Key=Mr+Surfacer&Submit=Go
Works well for sanded areas and small cracks / gaps.

Mr Surfacer is a Primer / Liquid Filler. Works well over Squadron Putty to provide a smooth surface after sanding, etc.

IMHO the Autobody putty is cheaper than Squadron and it's pretty much the same stuff!!!

For small gaps I use vinyl spackle by DAP.Can be found at most DIY or hardware stores.H2O based, easy work/cleanup,fast dry,and colorable.Redo?Wash off with water.Drawbacks are it shrinks a little in large gaps and not really good for 'strength'applications. If you go the automotive route, get the 'spot' putty in the tube and not the 2 part Bondo brand body filler.Much cheaper and more like Squadron product.
HTH!
cheers
