1.Wall putty can get at any hardware/ DIY stores. Cost less than $5 a tub.

2. Celluclay? What's that actually in layman's term? Not plastercine I guess.

3. Photo frames & diorama bases can get at Spotlight. Comes in a variety of shapes & sizes. Quite cheap.

Hi..

1. Wall putty - You can find them at DIY/Hardware shops. Got lots of different brands, I usually get the cheapest. But I suggest reading the label before buying.. :-) Just in case..

2. Celluclay - I bought a packet from Central Hobby Plus (Meridien Shopping Centre #02-03). You can go try there. Heh.. but I must say celluclay is a material that's hard to play with. The proportion has to be right.

3. SPOTLIGHT.. no doubt.. check out their wood section.. lots of different bases. Price is worth it too.. ranging from $2 to $5..

HTH..

Try ART FRIEND at Bras Basah , got one section filled with what you are looking for and maybe more.

Your mind will start to run with ideas once you go thru the rack .

Hi Psyfool
Celluclay is a type of clay used for diorama ground work. I came across that stuff in this site as well as SHep Paine's Diorama book. Havnt used it yet. Will update once I managed to use that stuff sometime soon. Thanks for the info. Have a Great Day

Hi JM
Thanks for the caution on Celluclay. Have never used it before. Will try one some time soon. I know where to come If i am stuck

BTW at spot light I saw a stuff called 'Artist Sand'. Looked like very fine plastic granuels. Just 3 or 4 $. I picked a packet. Thought I could use as a surface cover on diorama. The only down side is that all the available colors where very bright. Blue, red etc. Will update If it works out well.

Thanks again.

we are only starting to do this now in the NZ community but why dont you guys write up like a 2 page review on the model shops in Singapore and submit them so that anyone from all round the world can find out whats the best model shop to be looking out for when they visit Singapore. Locals will also benefit greatly from it and the shop gets free publicity.

I for one would really like to see reviews (with photos) for all the shops in the country.

Just my 0.02.

I read the book and went around looking for the Celluclay last week end. Found it hiding in the bottom shelf of Art Friend at Bras Basah. Cost me about $14/= per pack.

Art friend also sell wood base which will looks good after a spray of lacquer or vanishes. but the sizes are limited.

If you are using Celluclay, make sure you have to varnished or lacquered you wood base to prevent the moisture from the celluclay affecting your wood base.

I try using wall putty before but dun really like the effect. Still trying for good alternative and maybe this weekend will try on the celluclay.

I'll stick to plastercine for groundwork I guess. Easier to work with and less mess. For those trying out Celluclay, pls post some pics of the outcome so we can learn more abt it.

Hi SK
Thanks for the tip. I am planning to start my first diorama. Today bought most of what I needed except celluclay. Do post your experience and pics. All the best
:)
