I think ...
This is because it is a limited release.

i purchased on of the Dragon expo kit , and it was $ 49.00 Cdn.
Which ,i think is a bit higher than the usual asking price - range.

If you want to know for sure.though, Ask to speak to Dave Sheel. He is usually pretty good at explaining the cost - breakdown.

Mike I think you are refering to the DAK Tiger.

The DML/Dragon Afrika Korps Tiger I limited edition kit is listed at the Military Hobbies website at....

$84.99 CDN. (Preorder)

DML/Dragon Tiger I Heavy Tank (Late Production) '3 in 1' is listed at.....

$46.99 CDN.

I have no idea if the latter one has indeed gone up in price. I thought thats always ben the price of it. Be interesting see what happens from this merger.

mike i also think you've got this wrong because to my knowledge the initial and late arnt limited issues. The price suddenly rose 5$, what explains this?

I havn't noticed much of an increase in prices at MH yet. I don't have the prices memorized but went and looked at previous bills from the last year and the prices are roughly the same as they were. I was putting off ordering as I thought maybe we would see a large increase in the catalog of items online, but thought better of it when I checked out northstar online and saw their prices a fair bit higher on most things than Dave has them. So I put in an order recently just in case we do see a price jump. Which would be sad because I have bought most of my kits over the last 3 years from MH....always good service and better prices on most things than the rare shop you find out on the praires!! I guess we'll just have to wait and see if its a good thing for us consumers or not.

Ever since ive had horrible service from a hobbyshop in the area ive been with military hobbies because they accept c.o.d, i pay half the tax, and can save over 10$(before taxes and shipping) of most tamiya armor etc

I to have been astonished by the excessife price they asked for kits... althought i am happy they sell pe. But for such articles i will probably deal witha hobby store in quebec city as the prices were very good and the man replied to questions very fast.

Sorry , my mistake.....

I dialed the MH toll free number last week, and was answered by the Northstar people.
I'm pretty sure thatt ,they bought-out Military hobbies, And even if Dave Sheel ,still works there, they are free to set the prices as the see fit.
Supply & demand ,might also have something to do with it

.But like i mentionned ,you can use their toll-free number ,and talk to the horse's mouth, yourself

no harm done mike, It would be very unfortunate if military hobbies realy was bought out, i mean, beside different paint brands, i dont see what northstar has to offer more?

Well...
for one thing ...
this person I spoke to; was telling me that they had Attak Zimmerit .But it would take time to list evrything on their site

There is'nt any thing for the Dragon kit 6253, yet. or at least not listed on the Atak web site ( http://atakmodel.com.pl/ )

As for paints ; Model master ,should also be available, for shipping.

I already have kit no:6253 , since it's a late tiger1 model , i definately want to make it look authentic. Maybe cavalier products have the answer

Well I don't know about prices but I have been waiting for an order for almost a month now. I only live about an hour north so its kind of suprising.

However I have given them benefit of the doubt with the merger and everything. I have also been so busy that I havn't really had time to get too upset.

I sent them an email about the problem so hopefully it will be resolved. It just used to be so fast and now this has me worried of what bodes for the future.

But like I said I will see how it goes.

You've obviously never been inside the Northstar store! It hs tons of after market, tools, plus lots of kits too.

As for price increase, I'm not going to cry into my beer over $5. Sheesh.

Well, 5$ is the difference between buying kits there or at my local hobby shop.

If the prices go up, I'll go to the local shop, because there'll be no point in doing business with Military Hobbies anymore.

I'm also watching to see what happens with the Military Hobbies assimilation. I had ordered a kit from MH because it was significantly less than elsewhere around the GTA, including Northstar. If the MH price rises on that item to match Northstar's price then like you, there is little point looking beyond the local shops that are within easy transit reach.

BTW, at the Ajax Show/Contest, Northstar/Military Hobbies had the DML 6253 Tiger 'Late' 3in1 on special. But, the regular price tag was $49.99.

After speaking with a fellow at the Military Hobbies 1-800 number several weeks ago, it seems apparent to me that this isn't just a merger, but that Dave has sold the business. I was told that he'll be on staff for a while to come on a part time basis and I'm speculating here that that means until the switchover is complete.

It remains to be seen if the service will be as good as it was under Dave. In my case, I ordered from MH because of the convenience and personal touch, but primarily because Dave kept the web site updated daily with what was in stock. I knew that if I ordered something, it would ship same day.

If, under new management, it becomes a case of ordering something that the web site says is in stock, but I find that I have to wait until they get it in stock, I'll start looking elsewhere.

In my mind, and having spoken at length in the past with Dave about it, the web site "in stock" feature was one of the primary reasons for MH's success. I can only hope that Northstar Hobbies runs their new internet business acquisition exactly as Dave did as if they don't, they'll lose customers.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Chris, first of all I do not work at the store, but do frequent Northstar/Military Hobbies on a regular basis. I purchase 95% of my modelling supplies from them, and in the process, interact with them to the point where 'I'm in the know'.

Dave continues to work there, and has a strong influence on the internet sales section, keep in mind that the staff is in the process of being trained and that there will be a transition period, until all staff are up to date on the system that Dave brought over with him. Dave's stock supply system is being used, and you will be given up to date info on the availability of a certain item.

As far as the pricing goes, yes certain items are slightly costlier, but speaking in all honesty, it's a small increase, in my opinion, it's about 40% slightly higher, 30% slightly lower, and the remainder evenly priced. It's inevitable that prices will eventually go up, that would of occured over time with Military hobbies had they not joined up with Northstar hobbies, that's the nature of the beast.....

I'll pass along your concerns, to Dave and Sheldon, and will remain vigil over this thread, should you have any further concerns or questions....

thanks,

Frank

I stand corrected then on Dave's continued participation in the business. Price changes don't overly concern me but I sure hope that they maintain the web site "in stock" status as well as Dave has in the past.

Cheers,

Chris

I two have dealt with MH and NS. Both of which in my opinion are great!. I used MH because as the excellent service Dave provided along with the fact that I live in Barrie and finding the time to get to Toronto was difficult. Sheldon and the crew at NS have always been extremely friendly and helpful. The selection at NS is enough to want me to take out a second mortage :-) I just hope that there is still free shipping over $50.00

hi Darryl, welcome to the site i passed near barrie this summer, little road trip from montreal to oakvile and burlington to owen sound to bob cayjen at my uncles cottage then back to montreal in a 5 day weekend. unfortunatly i didnt have the time to drop by military hobbies as it wasnt directly on our route
and when ordering i think hte shipping over 50 dollars is still free, sheldon seems to wish to keep c.o.d policies for now. i love military hobbies, theyve served me well in the past, but trying to save as much money, i try to shop a lot more.

Hey Daryl, long time.

I am commuting between Freddy & Barrie 2x a month. Not much in the way of hobby shops in Barrie, eh? Though I did find the RC guy had a fair selection of DML Armour.

Cheers

Graeme,

That would be Ideal Hobbies in Barrie's south end Dave who manages the store is a great guy and loves his armour, but the store itself is mainly RC. I assume you are on course? Our small club meets the last thursday of each month, so if you are ever up this way drop me an e-mail and I will provide directions

Yep that's the place! The owner seemed like a nice guy too.

Oddly enough, I will be in Barrie Thursday 26 Jan, the only 'last Thursday' of any month I'm in Borden while on this 8-month course!

There can be up to 10 to 15 of us that meet, if you can make it out, please do as we welcome everyone. Funny I never thought of Dave at Ideal as a stunning blonde?? lol. I live by Horseshoe Valley but work at OPP GHQ in Orillia.
