I've never been to one, but I'm very interested in going -- Does anyone have suggestions for shows worth attending next year?

I'd invite you to our show in April, but it's a haul from Alaska! However, if you have access to Air Force transportation, we're very close to Westover Air Reserve in Chicopee. :-)
Best bet would be to go to the IPMS site and look up "Local Events" for something near you.
The IPMS National Convention is in Kansas City Mo in August, I believe and the AMPS National event in in Maryland in April.
For figures, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia/Valley Forge and Long Island all have world class events. You missed th e biggie last July, world Expo in Boston. Next one of those is in Spain in 2008.

I liked Tamiya-Con. I was happy to get a chunk of marble and a door prize, but it turned out to be so much more. It was definitely worth the cost of the flight and car rental.

Yeah, this is a great show to attend if you're into judges who literally know nothing about the categories they're judging. But then again, it's perfectly rational to lose with a kit at a local level ant the win at 2 national levels with the same kit in the same year right?

The Fur Rendezvous in Anchorage in February used to include a nice model contest ... not sure if they still do. You might want to go to the IPMS USA homepage and track down the contact for the Anchorage IPMS club. http://navalpostalhistory.com/ipmsak.htm
Also, it looks like Aleutian Tigers IPMS in Fairbanks had a contest in October. http://www.alaska.net/~gidg/
Also, to correct Al's statement about AMPS, the 2006 contest is not in Maryland -- it's in Hubbard, Ohio, April 28-29. http://www.amps-armor.org/dnn/
