... and build of course!
Well for me, its Hasegawa 1/32 F-5E Tiger. Anybody remember this one? What a huge kit for a starter eh haha!!
Its a Christmas present from my aunt back in 1983. Cost me $35 then. No guessing, the masterpiece turned out a disaster. I used Panda glue and the glue is all over the place. Its trashed now.
My very first AFV is Tamiya's 1/35 M48 with the 90mm gun. This was in 1985.

Whats yours?

Hmm...Let me think. What I remembered was that I was in Pri or lower sec and got no money to invest on one. However, I think my first shd be either a 1/72 Tornado free gift from Take Off mag or a Phantom from Tamiya. Both were painted by brush! Though they were ugly, I wanted to keep them for memory but alas, my mom threw them away

My first model was a F-15 1:144 scale my dad got it for me, we build it with elephant glue..my first introduction with wet decal.
My first AFV and figures was a M-60 Patton from Tamiya and 1/35 from tamiya also Desert Rats got them from a voucher. So its kinda free. That was way back in primary 4 or 5. I stop after sec 2. Then i started making 1/35 figures again when i entered Sispec. Got a cheap GSG-9 set from MH Centerpoint. From then on i never stop and it got worse when i found out about TMS millenia walk.
My favourite model has to be my Bradley.

Hmm... mine has got to be the Mini 4WD racers from Tamiya (Those are considered models ya??). Built them in primary school and raced with my friends under the block close to school almost every other day. Then when I entered secondary school, I decided to upgrade to 1/350 battleships (also Tamiya). That time, I still didn't bother about painting. Just build and display on my desk (now they're all dust collecting monsters). When I reached upper secondary, I switched to 1/35 AFVs... haven't regretted since.

Man... Tamiya has really impacted my young modelling life... :-)

actually guys if u look properly at how modellin affect our lifes..
- it makes us patient cause of the tiny detail parts we deal with...
- creative at how we design our own battle scene using our imagination
- lastly my favourite...how broke they can make us at times,
its really addictive in a good way though...
hahah... :-) :-)

I started modelling about 2 years ago.

My first model was (like others) a Tamiya. The kit was a BF-109 plane.

After that, i realised planes wasnt my cup of tea and went on to get Tamiya's T-34. I used superglue to stick the parts together and brush painted my models.

I think for someone who is new to modelling, the only brand that comes to mind would be Tamiya. They've made themselves a reputation for modelling. If we could only find Dragon in shopping centres.

I always regarded Tamiya as the leader in AFV model kits. But I haven't build a Dragon before so I cannot comments on its quality today. Open up a Tamiya Kit and you can build it straight away. No need to do flash cutting, sanding (or minimum), no worries that the male part will not fit the female portion, minimum misalignment if any, great details, and the good list goes on. And a weird sense of ecstacy when I open up a Tamiya box... that smell, that smell of plastic and cardboard packaging... mmmm... yummy haha!!

As for aircraft model kits, Hasegawa shines in the same way a Tamiya AFV shines!

Great to read about all of your 1st kit Thank you for sharing

My first model was a IDF Kfir, 1/72 kit, a gift from my Dad when I was 10. As one rational being would have predicted, without a mentor, that kit was a disaster. I try to pick up again 6 years later, with a couple of airkits, but failed, due to lack of $$ for proper tools.

So, here I am, starting all over again but with proper tools and a stash of > 10 kits (all armor) to last me another year!

Cheers!

LOL... come to think of it.

I haven't got myself a DML AFV kit before. :-)
But reading the reviews make me drool for 1. (Should have got the 50% off DML kit from Morgan Hobby the last time they introduced 3 in 1.)

Hmm... there are lots of good places to buy Scale Models in Singapore.

Actually it depends on which part of Singapore you're living at. But the better hobby shops are located more in the Southern & South Eastern Part of Singapore.

If you want a list... we're more than happy to provide you with one. But I remembered there's a list in our Community Forum.

I can't say they're the cheapest because different shops have their different prices. But Time Machine Studios is the distributor of Dragon Products. So don't expect any other brands other than Dragon.

Across the street where Marina Square is, there's Miniture Hobby, you can sign up for a membership for free and enjoy 20% discount for anything in the store. Furthermore, once a while, they have discounts for new products. Their range isn't as huge but it should satisfy the most "moderate" hobbist.

Oh, there's just one thing to remember though, always ask for a discount when you get something. The owners should be more than happy to give you one. Otherwise, it's time to go somewhere else.

I dropped by the Hobby shop at Sunshine Plaza after I went to the car accessories shop just next door. They have a nice collection of tanks that were well finished. Also there's a whole load of primered tanks lining up the whole display case. I just looked ard though, and didn't asked any price. But I tink the price of their completed models (price tagged) are a bit steep to me. What's their pricing like for the kits?

Hmm... Psyfool.. I think the shop you went isn't MWorkshop. It's the one without a signboard.

MWorkshop is at the otherside, opposite a resturant that sells noodles.

As for price wise, I'm not so sure about the "no signboard" shop. But MWorkshop do have some storewide discounts once a while.

*I don't usually get fully built models done by other modellers because of the price. Just too unreasonable..
