It is an interesting site - thanks for sharing it.. There is always however a little niggling doubt about how valuable WW2 color pics actually are. Simply put, the quality of color stock (film) was not what we have had fo the last 30+ years and always there was a certain amount of deterioration in the negatives and the potos themselves. Therefore, to base colors on those in contemporary photographs can be very deceptive.

What they ARE useful for, is for bringing out detail of weathering which is frequently vague in B/W pictures. Perhaps they should be seen (in many cases) as 'aesthetic' rather than purely technical...Jim

I agree with Jim on the fact that one should not trust these colors to be right. One thing is how good/bad the negatives/film/prints are, another thing is actually how the colors are set on your PC screen... And that goes for picutres of modern stuff as well.

I found some nice dio ideas on that site. It's kind of strange to see color pictures from WWII as I tend to think that there was no colors in real life during WWII... #:-) All we ever see is the black/white pictures. But I guess that the grass was green back then also...

Thanks for the site Norseman, very interesting.
Jim has got a point however about how accurate old colour photos are. I have seen quite a few of these shots before, in various publications, & due to the reproduction processes involved they do vary a lot. But they do have value in determining general colours & shades (eg 3 colour German camo scheme on vehicles), which is very difficult if not impossible with B/W. Be wary of using them as a colour guide, it's much better to use modern photos of original equipment, with provenance.
I'm tempted to suggest that the SS machine gun crew in smocks & Italian trousers may be reenactors, likewise I think the shot of PzIII with 7 on turret may be a post war shot, it looks a lot like the one @ Bovingdon, & I did notice one of Himmler & other officers near the beginning that was obviously a black & white print coloured after the event. The "German officer" with the scarred face is of course Otto Skorzeny (we all knew that didn't we?!).

I too agree about not using the photos as the only source of reference in terms of colours. I tend to check a few references before deciding on a particular colour.

Im just having a ball looking at all the photos however. For some reason, with colour, it somehow puts me closer to the action and gives me a clearer picture of how it must have been like back in the 1940s.

Images like the one below somehow makes me wonder whats going through the soldiers minds when they are unloading from the transporters and whether they are aware of the [auto-censored] storm they are about to walk into.
