Thought I'd touch base with all the fellow badgers here.
Where ya from?
What ya workin' on?
Where's your LHS?
Are there any good shows/swap meets coming up?
I'm from Brookfield here. College just started, so it's getting tough to keep working on stuff. There's a 1/48 AMT/Ertl A-10 (I know...I know...) and a 1/35 AH-6J Little Bird sitting on the bench. I also have the Italeri F-22 awaiting a final coat of paint and decals. The stash is at about 15 kits....so I still have some semblance of sanity, lol.
I'm partly stuck because of school, and also, I want to build myself a paint booth before I progress much further on the builds. I've found a few websites with instructions, but really haven't decided on a plan or materials yet.
I also ordered some resin casting materials recently, and hope to get some copies and scratchbuilding done.
That's about it for me. Who else is out there?

1) Living in De Pere, up by Green Bay
2) This and that, finishing nothing
3) NEW Hobby in Green Bay and Hobby Town in Ashwaubenon. Hobby Lobby in Green Bay too for the 1/2 off sales.
4) There's a show in Wausau in October and MMSI in Chicago which is also in October.

1) Oak Creek, on the Milwaukee County side of the Racine-Milwaukee border
2)Braille scale OIF USMC M1A1Diyalah river crossing dio and Academy's MH-60G Pavehawk
3)Greenfield News and Hobby and Hobby Lobby in Racine for half-off sales
4) Porkchop's got it covered
I am fully aware of the AMT A-10, I used mine as an airbrush test palate until my little brother smashed it to pieces. :-) I too just started college (second year mechie at UWM) and it has cut severely into hobby time. School + work = no time for modelling.

So far it appears that helicopters are a popular subject in this state....

Helicopters all the way! But, I guess I'm biased
I have the MRC 1/35 AH-1W and Panda UH-1N with a plethora of Cobra Co. update sets just begging for a super-detailing. Alas, where will I ever find the time?
I visited Greenfield News and Hobby for the first time this summer and was fairly impressed. Decent selection of kits and supplies. Of course, anything will out-class the local Hobbytown. Two other shops I like are in West Allis; Happy Hobby and Model Empire. Never been to a Hobby Lobby....is it worth a drive out of my way? I have even heard that their 1/2 off sales get picked over very quickly.......

Every time I have gone to the Hobby Lobby sales in Racine, the armor is usually picked over pretty well but there always is the new Tamiya OIF stuff there. Aircraft is a different story. I have seen both of the 32nd scale Academy F/A-18s (basic and OIF) and the new Academy F-16 there along with the Revell B-1B and a bunch of other kits that I never see at Greenfield News and Hobby. I wanted to get one of them but even at half off, the models were $75 each. That I would have to find a place to put them after I was done. :-)

What's up guys? I'm currently living in Platteville, recently started my junior year at UW-P. History major. When I moved back here, I left my kits at my parent's house. But I started some new ones a few weeks ago, a Tamiya Stug III G, and a Dragon Panther Ausf A late model. Expecting some Atak zim in the mail this week. I'm from Fond du Lac, and that's where I went to HS. Not much around here for modeling. Fond du Lac has a nice little shop on Main Street called Focus, if you're ever in the area check them out. Damn math test tomorrow, and papers and midterms are next week
Hopefully some time this weekend, since I have off from my two jobs.

Madison here, working on Tamiya F-15E Bunkerbuster and Tamiya Leopard 2A6 with Panzer Modelbau full engine kit, Voygeur Photo Etch set, and Model Point L55 metal barrel.
Locally the largest and most extensive stock is at "The Last Square" on Odana Road. The shop has an extensive aftermarket area for figures, conversions, and updates.
There are actually two (2) shows in the future including the one mentioned by Recon and another one in March sponsored by IPMS Mad-City Modelers which has received good reviews in the past.

There is a question going around about doing something for the 5th anniversary of the site. Why don't we start it off by meeting at the February 24 and 25 show in Madison. We can start the journey to KC at this show.
What are your thoughts.

I'm not sure. I would like to but the next semester will be in by a month so things will be getting pretty hairy. I guess it all depends.

Modelfest in February sounds good to me. I came to the Mad City Modelers contest last year as a spectator (I beleive that was at the Radisson as well). Lots of great models there. Hopefully I'll have something on the table this year. Will there be another raffle going on? Passed through it last year, but wasn't sure how to enter or how long I'd have to stay. Looked like there were some amazing kits going away there.
As a side note...how are these contests judged? I'm thinking of entering a couple of pieces in these Madison shows, and I have heard that some contests ask for kit instructions and extensive reference photos of your subject. What would be the basic requirements to bring?
One other note....anyone here a member of, or know of, the Billy Mitchell Model Club in Milwaukee?
Thanks all.

We do not require instructions to be put next to your models. If you have done a MAJOR conversion you might want to say something and bring the instructions for that.
Modelfest will be a 'judged' show. In fact, Porkcop is one of the judges. We are looking for judges so if you want to judge you are welcome.
We hope to have a very nice raffle at our show.
We are having 4 seminars and 1 confirmed speaker. I am working on getting a B24 nose gunner who flew out of Foggia Italy, more on that later.
All you'll need to do is fill out the entry form and make sure you put on it all the work you did.
All I know of the Milwaukee show is it is on 10/21/06. No location that I know of yet. Maybe they will be back at the EAA museum in Oshkosh.
If you have any other questions please ask.

The March contest is also a judged show. No kit instructions are required a simple form stating what kit used, any special techniques used,
The next club meeting is on Dec 17 at 230 at the Last Square in Madison

Hey Guys...
Jeff Herne, Ixonia, halfway between Madison and Milwaukee. Associate Editor of FineScale Modeler, and Show Chair for the 2006 Bong Chapter Model show.
I'm working on: Trumpeter T-34/85 to SU-85 conversion in 1/16, Eduard Hetzer, AFV Club M36, Special Hobby Fiat G.55, a Fletcher Class DD, a 1/35 Schnellboat, and a scratchbuilt 1/200 IJN Takao (heavy cruiser).
Local HS: Hobby Depot America in Hubertus, Big Bear in Milwaukee, Greenfield News and Hobby, and Last Square in Madison. Everything else is too damn far to drive.
Shows: 10/21/06, the IPMS Bong Chapter event at the Midway Hotel in Brookfield, on Moorland Rd. right off Rt. 94. We're putting the details together now.
I know most of these characters, but there's a few that have popped up here that I've not seen at Milwaukee or Madison meetings. Come on fellas, lock and load.
If anyone in the area ever wants to meet for lunch and a tour of the FSM headquarters, drop me an email.

I must have missed this thread earlier.
Currently living in Cudahy (Just south of Milwaukee)
Working on about 12 projects at once, but the one currently holding my attention is the Trumpeter Morser Karl Gerat with rail transport carrier. 1250 pieces of plastic joy ( and a touch of frustration...lol).
My LHS is primarily Greenfield News and Hobby. I also hit Big Bears once in awhile too.
I think everyone else covered the show scene.
Nice to see all you fellow Wisconsinites here.

Hi Jeff, good thing I checked this thread again.
This is the first time I've heard of the modeling event at the Midway; I am a stone's throw from I-94 and Moorland. Definitely looking forward to more info on this.
