...was the day i had the most fun while i was in the military.

I was born in Singapore but moved over to NZ when i was about 13 years old but having to keep my singapore citizenship, i had to go back an enlist for compulsory national service aka military obligations.

Anyway i ended up serving the Combat Engineers and was made raft commander for an amphibious vehicle that was used to transport armor and all other vehicles across water obstacles but part of the training to become a raft commander was to learn basic explosives......boy did i have alot of fun!

We played around with the more primitive form of explosives up until the modern type like claymore and anti tank mines. The primitive ones consisted of mainly TNT block charges with simple det cords connected with a detenator attached to the end and petrol based explosives. My personal favourite was stuffing an empty coke can with TNT with a detenator in the middle and shoving it into a wall or hole in the ground to quick and easy demolition.

My favourite modern explosive has to be the claymore and ADM (larger version of the claymore). I remember taking a video of the ADM explosive and observing how much carnage it caused. ADMs are typically used to destory runways and incoming enemy planes that are coming in for landing.

Any of you have some experience with explosive? Do share!

Yeah i had to go through all that training too even though we were in the bridging engineer unit and werent ever going to use it. All combat engineers had to do it though.

Great stuff on signing up with CD! I left in 1997 and came back to NZ so ive pretty much lost touch with Singapore's current affairs.

Why sign up with CD and not SAF?
