Hello everybody! I need a little help on what kit to buy. Right now I'm working on re-finishing my kicthen. As soon as I'm done, I plan on starting my first diorama. I figure the first steps is to determine what models to buy. The diorama i plan to build is of a german cannon encampment. I got the idea when i was watching Band of Brothers episode 2. It was the part where the 101st attack the 3 M88 german cannons. mine wil be a little different. I will have a M88 cannon as the focus of the diorama. But, I would also like to include another cannon of a different type, perhaps a flak gun. i know Tamiya makes bolth kits. I also plan on having a german half track in there as well. But what i have a problem with is in this diorama, i would like to include the vehicle that pulled the M88 cannon to it's site. I do not know if the germans used half-tracks for pulling cannons that large. i figure they probally used some type of truck. So, does anyone know of what kind of truck that would have pulled that cannon? If someone makes that kit? and where to get it? Thanks for any help, I appreciate it

Thanks
Jay.

Hi Jay,

That sounds like a pretty ambitious idea for a first diorama.

For the kits you wanted to know about, heres the round up.
The Flak 88.( dont use the "M" designation for German Armor) Dragons new kit is a lot better than the old Tamiya one and comes with a crew and other accessories. All for $30 something bucks. A great deal.

The Sdkfz 7 is the vehicle that usually towed the Flak 88. Tamiya made a kit of it, but alas its now out of production. Ebay is your best bet for it.

A Flak gun, i presume you mean a AAA gun. Not sure what size shell you want it to shoot, but try Tristar makes a very detailed 20mm Flak gun that runs around $15 i think.

HTH

Regards
Matt

In reality, they were 105mm guns, but not sure of the specific model.

That is the cannon from that episode, but I plan on using the larger 88 cannon in mine. I might actually add that one instead of a AAA gun

Thanks
Jay

The guns were four German PAK 105mm howitzers. I don't know of any kits of them, though.

A.F.V. does a kit of the gun in question it was a 105 mm Fh18 but the kit does not do the muzzle brake as shown in B.O.B. Hope this helps

Does anyone happen to know what kind of truck kit i can use also. I'd like a truck for carring ammo and supplies.

Thanks

Opel Blitz, Opel Maultier, any halftrack. The Germans used all sorts of vehicles for gun pulling and cargo carrying.

ellevehc86 -

I'm wondering if a Steyr RSO fully tracked would be an option? I've got an old Italeri kit of one (w/PAK 40) I'd be willing to donate to a "first" diorama. Jay, if your interested, just send me a PM. Or anyone else if Jay doesn't claim it. Happy modeling
