Apocalipse Now... especially the scene of the helicopter attack on that VC village... the music (I think it is Ride of Valkyra) is sill giving me the creeps.
BTW I've heard about a director's cut Apocalipse Now DVD with additional footage.. Has anyone seen it?

'Apocalypse Now' for a taste of the surreal. And ' Platoon' for bringing it a little closer to home... 'Go tell the Spartans' for a look at the 'early days'. ('Green Beret' was a little too much jingoist propaganda for me personally). ' Hamburger Hill' for a narrower viewpoint.
' Full Metal Jacket' for about the closest depiction of USMC boot camp (Parris Island, not San Diego. Don't care what they say) I've seen. 'Who'll stop the rain' for a unique view of the twisted attitudes that came from the 'Nam, and also an odd example of the kind of comeraderie that was a result of it. ' Dear Hunter' I don't like to watch.

Welcome to this edition of " Talking Pictures" with TreadHead!
Sorry for the diatribe.

Not my favorite (Platoon), but "Bat 21" is pretty good also. I always like Gene Hackman movies. Have you guys seen "The Package"? Great military thriller.

'We Were Soldiers' opened in theatres last Friday, the 1st of March. It's a depiction of the first battle of the Armored Calvary in Vietnam. It is based on a true story. Follow-up shows I've seen on the History Channel today quote survivors of the battle as saying the movie is approx. 80% accurate.

It is by far one of the best movies I've seen. Both my and my wife's families served in Vietnam and we saw this movie together. I have an uncle whom I've never met that is MIA. To call it moving would be an understatement. The movie portrays some great people and I believe has tremendous lessons in leadership that many of my fellow officers need to see. I think it also gives the general public, who have never served in the military, a look into the life of a military family that movies to date have failed to do.

What are you? A g_ddam weatherman now?

You bet. Go see it Tread, all of you too. Well worth the money and there was a scene that actually brought a tear to my eye. Incidentily, 1-7 CAV is still active as the 1st Cavalry Division's Divisional Cav Squadron. Better movie than Blackhawk Down (and I really liked BHD).

Tin,

Really appreciate the expanded review. I had planned to see it this past Saturday, but I was a little busy running around Denver . And unfortunately Sunday was full of ' honey-do's', so I guess I will have to carve out sometime this week and see it. The opinion of the group seems to be a BIG thumbs up! Heck, rumor has it that even ol' Rob 'steel guts' Gronovious shed a tear... :-) lol.

again, many thx

Hey guys,
"Bat 21" was a good movie. I loved the TV series "Tour Of Duty", and a documentary that Tom Hanks done for PBS called "Return with Honor".
