Just found this thread, and thought to look for more in our area. Dojo looks to be the closest to my home of Fort Lauderdale here. Any more folks nearby?

Yeah, West Sunrise. Been looking for anything in the area.

East of Tampa, We need a club around here that would meet on a weekend, last I checked the only club around meets on a Tuesday night IIRC. That was a while back if they still meet at all.

I'd be happy if we had a hobby shop on this side of the bay. All we have is Toytown USA. I mean Hobbytown USA, what a joke.

They had a model show, a year or so ago. I was trying to get a P-38F done in time for the show but had a decal disaster the week before. When the day of the show came, I was upset until I got there and there was no show. All the tables in back had all the war gamers set up... not a model in sight. Only one guy came and "entered" a project. What he entered was a un sanded, 4" brush painted (with house paint?) plywood Enterprise bridge he built for his Star Trek action figure collection. Action Figures... They weren't even Models, HE DIDN"T EVEN HAVE TO PAINT OR BUILD THEM! I might have been okay with that but he didn't even do a very good job on the bridge. Now I am not one to tear down another guys work, my point here is, none of this is what could be classified as plastic modeling or a model show. I am just trying to state how bad Hobbytown screwed this thing up. I only knew about it because of a small piece of paper next to the register said "Model Show" with the date. When I asked about it, The staff didn't know anything about it and didn't even seem interested in it.

The guy's Star Trek display stayed on the cart, that he brought it in on, for about 15 minutes when the employee says, "um... well, I guess no one brought anything in... so I guess you win," Here ended the show. Now THAT is one heck of a judge. Glad I didn't lose too much sleep when I was not able to finish my entry.

Sorry, not sure how this turned into a rant. I guess just because I miss modeling with real folks.

Hi Dave...I know what you mean about Hobbytown. Yo are probably speaking of the one in Brandon, but all the local Hobbytown stores are the same. Through the years they have stocked fewer and fewer models , especially armor in 1/35. Their prices were always way too high and so the models would not move. Every year they would have a fifty percent off sale and so it was then that I would get two for the price of one. Others seemed to do this also as the shelves would finally show signs of emptying. Seems like that was the only time they could sell anything and now they have finally just stopped restocking the armor alltogether. It is a shame that the only way to get anything is on line. Most hobby shops want way too much money and even paying for postage you still get them cheaper on line. Seems like RC planes and cars are all that they are interested in. Anyway....If you are interested in getting some folks together to do models, give me a call. Check your messages for the number.....Thanks .....Al

We used to have a fairly active IPMS chapter in W Palm Beach a number of years ago, but it kind of faded away, and disbanded. I'm currently deployed in Iraq, but I think I'll probably look into Flight 19 when I return home, we'll see. I really enjoyed the club scene as far as the modeling went, put not a huge fan of some of the political crap and ego BS that can go with it!

Hey all, and Jeremy, just alittle north in Crestview here.

Bob

Hi Bob (and Herchealer),

If you are both still in the FWB/Crestview area, the Emerald Coast Modelers meets every Friday, from 7-10, at the Valparaiso Community Center (next to the Library).
We can always use new members.

Cheers,
Larry, in Mary Esther
