Has anyone noticed something not right with the listed weight of some kits at Luckymodel? This is one of the examples I have noticed. And I believe they use the Kilogram as the unit of weight.

Academy #2199 Huey "Heavy Hog" listed at 0.79

Academy #2196 Huey "Frog" (which is basically the same as the above) is listed at 1.4

Same two kits at Hobbyeasy are listed as:

#2199 listed at 0.54

#2196 listed at 0.56

You see a big problem with #2196 being listed at 1.4 at Luckymodel.

The problem is after picking 2 or 3 kits I end up with something like 4 or 5 kilos with a very high shipping rate.

Has anyone noticed this before? I'm hoping the gentleman from Luckymodel who visits this forum will see this and I hope it can be corrected as I would love to buy a few of the kits they have on sale now.
Thank you.

No affiliation with the seller but having a lot of experience in the logistic industry I would guess that one place is listing the weight of the kit without the shipping package, while the other is listing the weight of a single fully packaged-ready-to-ship weigh.

But I'm comparing the weight of both kits at Luckymodel. One Huey is (0.79) and the other is (1.4) which is almost double the weight.

But at hobbyeasy you can see that both huey's weigh pretty much the same. One is (0.54) and the other is (0.56).

I've also sent them an e-mail and I do hope they check it cause it causes a big problem with shipping rates. Also, this is only one example. I've noticed several other kits with with extremely exagerated weight listed for them. It would be a shame for this to ruin an otherwise excellent shop with excellent service.

Dear Hisham Haikai,

Thank you very much for your feedback. We have checked the weight record for 2199 and 2196.

2199 is weight 0.2kg more than the 2196 (by actual weight item by item) I guess may be the box weight. But I will double check the kit again.

The weight you see 1.4kg including the shipping box. With reference to hobbyeasy's price, assume we have a wrong weight record. The shipping box itself has already 0.3kg, it seems not possible for 1/35 helo kits with 0.2kg.

I also discover some of our weight is heavier than hobbyeasy. fews of them are data entry error for some items during 2003, but we also discover that some item cannot be that "thin" just like the kit you are talking about. So, I think they may change the weight in order to try to match the total price with us. (just my guess). But sure, if the 540g is total weight, we cannot put the kit into a box, we can only warp the kit with a paper!

For 2196,2199 that kinds of kit, a single small packet for one kit is the max. limit. If you get two kits together, the charges will pump up to Parcel category in which the initial shipping charges is US$12 on first kilo.

If you find any kit that you wants and discover the weight not normal, please let me know.

Raymond... Thank you for your prompt reply.

First I want to say that I'm not saying that the weight listed by hobbyeasy is the correct one. I just used their weight to compare the two kits and see if there really is a big diference between them.

You say that the 1.4 kilos are including the shipping box, so that means that the other huey with weight listed at 790 grams is without the shipping box? One kit has weight with shipping box and another kit has weight without shipping box?

You say that 2199 weighs 0.2 kilos more than 2196 but you have 2199 at 0.79 and 2196 at 1.4

If it's the other way around then 0.79 + 0.2 = 0.99 and not 1.4.

Another kit is Academy 1/48 F4U corsair also listed at 1.4 and that is just too small to weigh that much, while one of the 1/48 F-15 kits is also listed at 1.4.

Italeri #292 M-977 Hemmt truck (which is a pretty big kit) listed weight is 0.69

Italeri #273 Commando Hummer (Which is much smaller than the M-977) listed weight is 0.73

I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding something or if my message bothered you. the weights just don't seem right since I have a small scale that I use to approximate kit weights.

Thank you again.

Hi Hisham.

I may be wrong, my wife tells me I always am but maybe the weight with shipping box is calculated on your first entry in the shopping cart. So if the kit weigh say .5 kilo and is entered into cart add another .3 kilo for the shipping materials and you get .8 kilos as your first entry then when you add the second kit, it shows up as .5 kilos instead of .8 and you are left wondering why there is a difference...

This may account for the weight difference between the first and second kit? Again this is only a guess.

Cheers, Michael

Dear Michael and Hisham,

May I take this chance to explain auto-shipping cost calculation:

When a kit is select into the cart, the software will calculate the gross weight of the kit/kits, then it determine which shipping box (we have a series of boxes) suitable for this shipment. Since different kit weight result in different requirement of box (single/double side box), the system will add up 0.3 kg to 1.7kg box (for large orders). And then, the system will calculate the maximum dimension limitation for the destination country (e.g. Australia is 200cm for the grift (W+H)*2+L , and 300cm for UK and 275cm for US). If the total order kits volume size (not gross weight) is bigger than the max. limited, the system will split the orders into another shipping box and adding back another packing material weight.

The procedure is quite complex (consider many factors according to last 2 years experience). So, the resulting value with 95% accuracy. However, the box size and weight is a critical factor for the right shipping. It is hard to provide 100% error free dimension and weight information using manual measurment. In fact, we are looking a machine which have 3D laser measure and weight measure with PC interface. If we can have this, no more manual error. (but it quite costly for us in current stage ).

If you find any "doubt" weight, please let me know. I will get it back for you.
