Battlefield 2 Goes GOLD!

This just in from the front lines…Battlefield 2 has officially gone GOLD! The game will begin shipping under the EA GAMES brand starting Tuesday, June 21, 2005.

In Battlefield 2, players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, China, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition. Armed with the latest modern weaponry, players can take control of any of the game’s 30+ vehicles. Players can also hone their skills against improved enemy intelligence in the new single-player campaign before competing online with up to 64 players in some of the most intense battles on the PC.

Enhanced team play features allow players to enter the action on the front lines as part of a formal squad, or work behind the scenes in Commander Mode to direct the strategic assaults of their teammates. With the new online character ranking and persistence, players increase their rank and unlock awards, including new weapons, medals, and more.

Developed by Sweden-based developer, Digital Illusions, the creators of the original Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2 is rated “T” (Teen) by the ESRB and has an MSRP of $49.99. For more information about Battlefield 2, please visit http://battlefield2.ea.com or our press Web site at http://info.ea.com

Editors Note: I have my pre-order at Best Buy already. Of course my game time is WAY down lately with my health problems...

I would have thought at least Dave Brown and Harrison would be excited.

Danial,
I have that game to and played it thru to 98% then made a stupid mistake that took me back to the start of that difficult last chapter. But where that game is good for single-player action, Battlefield is really more a multi-player online game. And in my experience the best of the online FPS games.

Cheers,
Jim

Yea, been waiting for this one to come out. Haven't even been playing PC games for a while though, took a slight hiatus after First To Fight which I enjoyed a lot. This one looks very promising, hope it's as fun as 1942 was! Brothers in Arms I was sorely disappointed in, I removed it and took it back after a week.

$50 is a bit steep but since I anjoyed BF1942 so much I may just have to splurge on this one. It looks really good!

I didn't like it at all Dan, I know other people have given praise to BIA but I just didn't like it. The gun sway was way overdone IMO, there were hit box issues with not being able to hit Germans that were half exposed and the levels were very linear. Not the tactical experience I was expecting.

Today is the day. I played the demo for it over the weekend. It's fun enough. But it does remind me more of some of the other FPS games like Call of Duty and MOH now. In the fact that you seem to get killed and are wondering where the hell the person is that whacked you. Death is swift even with all that body armor.

The vehicles and planes are cool though. And the interface is really nice. I finally realized that to get the VOIP working you have to join a SQUAD (look for the Squad tab).

Cheers,
Jim

I got a copy as well and have been playing it for a couple of days. This game is a lot of fun. Very similar to BF 1942 and BF Vietnam so not much of a learning curve :-)

I got my copy two days ago.
Not entirely impressed i must say.
The game is good, and the graphics are amazing, but the ranker online servers (servers that allow you to gain stats on how you play, get promoted, and recieve awards and medals) have appauling lag, and its not just one or two people or people with slow internet connections, it happens to every single person in the server!
Another thing thats incredibly stupid of EA, was the fact you cannot change your game name, in BF2 you have to make new accounts everytime you wish to change your game name, this requires you to delete the old one, which in turn, wipes all your stats and awards, and your rank.
This is a real bugger when your in a realism clan like me, and you get promoted in the clan which requires me to change my game name to display my rank.
i hope they fix those problems.
And ditto to Max's comments, if your looking for a clan come join us (me, max and tsunami bomb are all in same clan).
Just tell them D.Brown and Fischer sent you
Cheers

$50 isnt that steep, but another 150 for a new card is

that really pissed me off, got the demo and was looking forward to playing when i find out i dont make specs

all other games i have run fine (NFSU 2, KOTOR 2, THPS 2, and others), but this game only supports a very small number of cards, real shame

Same here Josh, I have an older card (TI4200) and it could use an upgrade but it does work for every game I play with no problems. I've not upgraded due to it working with everything and was looking forward to this one til I tried to run the demo the other night and found out it only works with a handful of cards. Quickly uninstalled it and it's off my to buy list, unless they add more card support. I'm not upgrading a card for just one game when all others play fine.
