Well unfortunately I had an accident with one of my Italeri jeeps and it is almost a total loss. However I decided that I might be able to do something really cool like put in under a Tiger!! Wondering if you guys have any ideas how I could do that. Heat it up and use a board or something to smoosh it?

Your technique sounds good to me. Might want to displace the axle and wheels to show that they bucled before the jeep was crushed too. I did the same thing with an Iraqi Landrover, under a T-55 on a dio.

Heat and board will produce something that looks like a semi melted blob of plastic.
Consider the physics. Only what is under the tracks proper will be flattend. The cockpit will flattend out much more than the hood, since the engine block is not likely to be flattened, nor are the differentials. Metal bends, creases and cracks under pressure, The tires would likely blow out. Any part that has already had the tracks pass over it should be scarred and gouged by the track pattern and not be just flat.

these guys are right about the effects on the jeep,

try searching the forums for the thread about the leopard running over a civi car. i think it was in the junk drawer.

also i have seen an old British TV programme where jeremy clarkson runs over a small jeep sized car in a cheiftan. it certainly makes a mess of the car.

regards

joe

I've seen the pics of the M1 running over a car. Way cool. Still not sure how to recreate that.

Since the jeep is in too bad a condition to be useful in any other display capacity, drastic measures will not be an issue. My next thought was to get some thicker foil-like material, remove a small section of the jeep (probably the rear passneger area) and sort of semi-rebuild the panels with the foil. I think I can use recover some of the frame and handrails. That might give a better impression of twisted sheet metal. I can pry off the seats cushions and toss them in there too. The seat backs are already busted off.

You know I was just going to make this a quick little project but now I think I may devote more time to it and go all out!

I remember reading an article in the old Military modelling magazine witha Russian KV 1 crushing a German Horch staff car. The building had replaced some of the panels and fenders etc with Lead foil and crushed it. It looked very realistic and the best part about it was he didnt have to make them fit perfectly or accurately as long as they looked right that was the main thing. I think you could do it with some foil bent and twisted to look like crushed metal.
Cheers,
Bryan

Ok,which way did the tank run over the jeep? Front to rear or skim a side?
Front to rear, the sheet metal directly next to the track will be angled "in"
If a run over at the front or rear, the extreme edge should be toatlly flattened, with a "bump" where the engine block would have resisted the compression.

For weathering, the freshly squeezed areas will be scratched with steel or aluminum as the "scratch" marks.

Here is an example of how the heat in a car could damage your precious kit. This was 1/72 King Tiger damaged by the hot sun. I put the KT on the dash board of my car then wife park the car in the hot sun. This is the result...

this could be some damage method too... hehe
