I like Saving Ryan's Privates and Black Hawk Down as my favorite war movies.

I saw Battle of the Bulge in cinemax. It was not really accurate but I like it.

Best Stinker: Pearl Harbor (I really hate the love story)

I will go for
saving private ryan
we were soldiers

and perhaps local best is Bukit Kepong... it is a good movie based on actual event that took place in Bukit Kepong, Malaya. The stories is about a group of communist trying to seize the police station in Bukit Kepong during the emergency situation back then... only 2 survivors on the good guys site while they fought hundreds of communist ......

the movie is in Malays and black and white...

Saving Privite Ryan as it upped the bar for realism in war flicks. We Were Soldiers is also a great flick.

There's so many good ones but I think

For Fiction it's Saving private Ryan

and for based on facts (apart from the final battle)
We were soldiers.

Some really great choices guys. Heres 2 that aren't great but interesting to watch.

HELL IS FOR HEROS Steve McQueen and Bobby Darien. Old black and white flick

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED. Great cast M. Caine, D. Sutherland and Larry Hagman. Fun to watch.

Two of my favourite war movies can almost be considerd anti war movies.

All quiet on the Western front c.1930 about german youth caught up in the excitement of going off to war and the actual horrors of war once they get there. Timeless!

Saving Private Ryan (the first 20 minutes) after watching the DDay landing if you were are still excited about going off to fight, well you may hsve some issues!

Oh yeah and for some other notables, Blue Max, and Das Boot!

Blue Max is from the german point of view about WWI aviators it

"The Blue Max is a cold, cynical drama offering a visually breathtaking portrait of a stultified society tearing itself apart during the final months of the Great War. --Gary S. Dalkin"

Das Boot is a submariners movie that is so claustrophobic it just feels like you are on the sub with the U boat crew!

You have to stick with Band of Brothers. I read the book by Ambrose beforehand, as was not disappointed. A bridge to far was also excellent, and we were soldiers was good also. Pearl Harbor was pretty bad except for some of the aerial combat scenes. Hamburger Hill was very good also.

Hello all!

my list:
Band of Brothers (the best for me, at the end you feel like leaving your friends!)
The longest day (the casino assault scene!)
Stalingrad (the opening assault!)

If Pearl Harbor would be a 1hour30mn movie with less love scenes, it would be in my list...

Some other movies are good too, but the one mentionned before, are the one I look at regulary...

Hi All~
Great thread but I miss someones mention
of Gettysburg!!!!
That has to be one of the best for me!!
I agree with all of you, except to hard on
Pearl Harbor It was a Disney movie made
to enhance the general feeling of the battle
they could not do it anything like
what would be more real like SPR!
But the sad fate of the Arizona was made clear!!
have fun~

There have been some great war movies and some real bombs. Everyone has mentioned most of my favorites. 'Saving Private Ryan' and the 'Band of Brothers' series are probably as good as I've seen. But, I do love 'Sahara' with Humphrey Bogart. Gotta' love that old M3.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned 'Is Paris Burning?'
It wasn't even in Channel 4's top 100!
