I am the only person who saw “Hamburger Hill?” I think has to be one of the top three Vietnam movies, behind “FMJ” and “We Were Soldiers.”

My favourite few:

the Lethal Weapon series
Lord of the Rings
Harry Potter
Ocean's Eleven
The Usual Suspects
LA Confidentional
Blackhawk Down

I don't really enjoy or like Saving Private Ryan, and most of Band of Brothers was I gave up on. Does that make me an outcast?

Cheers,

Saw Windtalkers last week ans was less than overwhelmed. Too much Nichlas Cage and not enough Navaho. Quickly fell into standard cliche war movie stuff. The aircraft doing close air support looked way to computer generated, almost as bad as the F1 cars in Driven. And then there's the inclusion of a shot of a 50 star flag at Kaneoa (sp?) Bay early on when thescenes are switching from the reservation to Cage's character.

Wow, so many to choose from, but here goes:

Hamburger Hill is a good one, I love the sequence where The Animal's We Gotta Get Out Of This Place plays over the Helicopter insertion - apart from all the Huey pilot's helmets being white! Oops.

Flight of the Intruder is another good one, especially the effects of the SAM launches.

Too late the hero is yet another little seen but well made and acted film of a little covered theatre of war. A class performace from several great British actors.

I thought Blackhawk Down was a bit OTT to be honest, although quite entertaining. Most of the cast are British in that one too bizzarely.

We were soldiers isn't bad (the Huey crash shot from inside the cabin is amazingly well done) but the ending is a bit Rambo and kind of lets it down as does one CGI shot of Hueys coming towards the camera which looks like something off a Playstation. Love the scene with the wives on the base getting the dreaded telegrams.

Das Boot, well what can you say, in my opinion one of the best films ever made (both versions). Fantastic model sequences (filmed on Lake Constance I believe). Jurgen Prochnow, if ever there was a guy born to play a U-Boat comander.... Great book too by the way.

The Thin Red Line and Apocalypse Now both have it for me as far as cinematography are concerned though.

Last but not least, Zulu. What an absolute corker. Look out for the Zulu extras wearing watches though! Apparently that's what they were paid with!

Holocaust59... Funny you mentioned the "Rambo" movies... What, doesn't everyone fire an RPG-7 from inside a Hind-D with US troops in the backblast area?
