I saw Black Hawk down at the weekend, and I was glued to the TV the whole way through. Saving private Ryan was an andrenelin rush for the first 20 minutes , but this was a rush the whole film after the first 20 minutes. I thouroughly enjoyed this film. Favourites would have to be the dirty dozen, Gladiator and number one is the wild geese. A brilliant movie from the 70s with Roger Moore, David Niven etc. etc. Another good one was Kellys Heros.

My all time favorite war movie is The Longest Day.
Next is The Mummy, because the hero carries enough hardware to get the job done.

My favorite war movie was Battleground, but after being completely blown away by Band of Brothers twice, it's the new champion, IMHO. The DVD's are out already, and have made no.1 on my X-mas list...hope I was a good boy this year .

cromwell--You might want to check out this thread. We had a lot of good films listed there.

By the way, I'm surprised your favorite film isn't "Cromwell" with Richard Harris

Black Hawk Down
Saving Private Ryan
The Great Escape - Steve McQueen, James Garner, James Coburn, Richard Attenborough, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasence, David McCallum
Hell is for Heroes....Steve McQueen, Bob Newhart, James Coburn, Fess Parker, Bobby Darin
The Naked Runner...cold war flic starring Sinatra....wow
Hey Captain Plastic Battle,
the Wild Geese is good, the Dogs of War (same story) technically better but I don't think David Niven ever appeared in the WG it starred: Richard Burton, Roger Moore, Richard Harris, Hardy Kruger.......Sir Dave was nowhere in sight....except of couse blowing up The Bridge Over The River Kwai...

Im not arguing, its so long ago since I saw it I might have gotten mixed up. This was the first movie I ever went to on my own. I was 8 years old in 1978. as well as being a great movie, it was that experience probably that would sway my decision for fav movie.
I saw Black Hawk Down at the weekend and I was blown away. I was riveted to the screen for the entire movie. Although I enjoyed private Ryan, it plodded along in bits, but BHD was great start to finish! I will definately buy this one.

Hi Captain Plastic Battle and Folgore,
I'm eating crow on this David Niven wasn't in Kwai; it was Alec falling on the detonator...as for Mister Niven, I only remember him in the Guns of Navarone..THE war movie for a kid growing up in the 60's.....
cheers,
Dave

What I meant was war films.
It's been a long time but I think Big Red One was good.
And I'll go with the Longest Day as well.
And as far as serials goes, Band Of brothers......TOP.

Saving Private Ryan
The Dirty Dozen
Kelly's Heros
The Big Red One
The Blue Max
Bridge Over the River Kwai
Enemy At the Gates
Stalingrad
The Thin Red Line
Full Metal Jacket
Would "Gladiator" count...? If so, gotta be in the top ten somewhere!

And one more goodie... in case my wife is reading this message thread (yeah - right!) - the only gift I'm really hoping Santa put's under my tree is the DVD collection of Band of Brothers.... I have an Uncle who was one of the "Battlin' Bastards of Bastogne". He said Rat doesn't taste so bad if you cover it with ketchup and a little salt.
