What is the one kit, book, tool, etc., that is your "Holy Grail?" The one item you'd really love to find some day, hopefully gathering dust in some shop that has no idea of it's value?
For me it would be either a resin 1/350 kit of HMS Hood, that normally goes on ebay for some un-Godly amount, or Hunnicut's Sherman book. Why can't I find some little antique shop that sells used books who has never heard of the internet, ebay, or modelers, and has the Sherman booked marked at $19.95 or something.

Halfyank,
For me it would be the old (I believe original) Tamiya Sherman in 1/16th that came with the metal tracks that was a horrendous $200....20+ years ago. I have ALWAYS wanted that model! Always. Gads, and I'm not a Shemaholic either. Just liked that one.
Ooooohhhhh, the scratch building that could be done.
Hmmmmm, any one got one cheeeeeeeap????
Mike

I got mine two weeks ago. It was the 1/16th Timaya Tiger I with the Aber super set. I ended up aquiring it under poor conditions from the seller so I hope to be able to make him proud when I am done.

That's an easy one for me, AMT's 1978-9 Ford Bronco. I had built the kit when I was in my early teens and had the real thing in my late teens. The model got destroyed trying to take off a really bad paint job some twenty years ago shortly after I got the 1:1. I still am searching for my Grail.

I found mine, the two cars from "The Munsters". I built these beasts when I was a kid & I thought they turned out great , now with some more experience I'm ready to try them again, maybe make a dio out of them. (after a couple of more armour peices,... I'm still in the savouring stage )

An old 1/16 scale MPC Clear Body Richard Petty Dodge Charger. I built one back in the middle 70's. They go for a small fortune now.

Since I already have a Hunnicutt Sherman bible
it would have to something like the Tamiya 1/16th Leopard 1A4 at a non-ridiculous price.

So Sorry Kris, I just found the one. Beleive it or not it was on e-bay, but listed incorrectly. I was just browsing around and found it! I placed one bid, and no one bid against me. I got it for the original retail price too! So it was a real steal. I hade been looking for over 5 years for this kit!

It had been the old Airfix 1/32 scale M3 Lee and Grant, but I found both of those on eBay several years ago.
I've had the trinity of Sherman Holy Grails, the DML M4A1, and the Sherman Hunnicutt book (this one for less than a year).
Unsure of anything that I just have to have, but when I see it, I'll know.

Brings back memories of my quest for the Monogram M3s which happened before the days of evilBay. Took me years before I tracked down two Grants and a Lee in a shop in north London.
So north London as to almost be out of the A-Z in fact. Original packing and Shep Paine leaflets. Well worth the slog from the nearest station.

Sticky thats the greatest find, I've wanted that kit ever since I saw it built by Tony Greenland in his book many many years ago. You better lock that one up cause I'm seriously thinking of hiring McGiver, Robert Wagner [ It Takes A Thief ] and the origial cast of Mission Impossible to get it. I have a brother who lives in Vermont so we have a base of opperations. - [ disclaimer - just kidding ] Please post in-progress on the build here cause I just love that kit. - Cheyenne

Hi,
My 'Holy Grail' would be to be about 30 years younger and know what I know today. Ha, ha! And since some of the local gas stations around this area now have their prices at $2.19 a gal., another 'Holy Grail' would be to find that the local hobby store where I buy most all of my stuff would sell about $10 worth of gas a week 'out back' to their steady customers at $.50 a gal. Another pipe dream I'm afraid!
Oh well......Take care, Sgirty

Mine would be any of the old MPC Dodge cars from the early 70s, especially the Dodge Challenger. That was my dream car when I was a teenager, ever since I sat in one when my Dad owned a Dodge dealership. Specificly, the 1971 Dodge Challenger T/A with a 340 cubic inch equiped with a 3x 2 barrel carberature

My holy grails: an original 'real scale' (1:1) Schwimmwagen for less than a 1000 euro's :-)
For models, I just be happy to find some 1:35 SFOR or KFOR european military figures... There are models of vehicles, but no figures...
But than again: I've got so much to build!!
One tip for those who wish more time to build models: don't wish too hard: I've got it after became unemployed a month ago....
