Was down my LHS today, and noticed that some Italeri kits had different looking boxes, and an increased price tag. When I mentioned this, the lady behind the counter tells me that Italeri has been taken over by Tamiya??!! Is this true? I sure hope not, as this would no doubt mean that all their prizes will go up.
Cheers

Umm SOunds like your local hobby shop went around the importer and bought them directly from Asia. Tamiya has not bought out Italeri. Tamiya re-boxes several Italeri kits for sale under the Tamiya Logo In Aisa. FOr example the Steyr and the Mercedes Truck are seen on Ebay quite often. These products are not supposed to be re sold in the west as they are intended for the asian market only. They are Italeri kits.

My LHS has had them in stock for sometime as well. Same italeri model .. throw in a few barrells and jerry cans and charge twice the price. No wonder they´ve been in stock for a while. What Bryan has mentioned above, about tamiyaselling Italeri kits in asia, is what I had heard as well.

All true. They are Italeri kits reboxed and sold under the Tamiya brand. Nice kits though. If you take a look in my gallery you can see the mercedes truck and RSO built up. If you want to buy these kits under the Tamiya banner then go to www.luckymodel.com

Tamiya is the Italeri agent in the east. To avoid confusion they rebox them under the Tamiya name and add a few accessories.
Another rebox of Italeri kits over there is 'Tommy'. These were different to Italeri but only in things like wheels, other then that they were Italeri.
