Hi,

After I have put up several pic's of my Sherman on several forums I was surprised to get so many questions of how I made my sandbags, I always thought that everybody new how to make them.

I made a little article of how I make them and have put it on my website.

Just click my banner and go to Tips

Ronny (Roadkill)'s method is quick and easy, and gives you nice looking sandbags. Watch out for fingerprints, though ! You can avoid them by using doctors' rubber gloves.

ShermanSam - Is this the method of making a true sand bag in miniature??
I remember an article revovling around a 'bagged' Sherman - the builder took tissue paper, cut in a rectangle twice the length and a little bit wider than he wanted the bags. He folded over the paper and glued it together to form a little pouch. He then filled it with sand and twisted and tied the top. He applied another coat of light water white glue mixture, formed the bags as they would be in place and then let them dry. He painted and weathered as 'normal'.
The article went into more detail, but that's the jist of it.

What exactly is Milliput?? Is it some sort of sculpting/self hardening clay?? I have not been able to find it in my local craft shops. What kind of paint do you use on it?? Acrylic or enamel??

Milliput is a 2 part epoxy putty. It molds like clay and cures to hard porcelain texture. Once dry you can saw, drill, sand etc....
I would imagine you could use any paint on it.
Its from England.
check out www.micromark.com they sell it.

The sand bag article was in the March 2002 issue of FSM. The article was by Bob Collignon. The sand bags are beautiful but they are really labor intensive. It took me about an hour to make three...
