I have been visiting Armorama for some time but only recently made the effort to register.

I started building Airfix, and then Revell, 1/72 model aircraft kits when I was still in primary school. When Airfix released their first 1/76 AFVs , I was hooked , and have been ever since.

These days my modelling tends to focus on 1/76 WW2 military vehicles, 1/72 modern military vehicles and 1/72 submarines, landing craft, escort vessels and coastal craft. I have a particular (frustrating) interest in modelling Australian military vehicles, perhaps due to my military service in the early 1970s .

I have a tertiary qualification in archaeology but rarely get to put my expertise to use these days. Every now and again I manage to escape from my desk and spend a bit of time in the bush.

My other interests are military history, particularly WW2 and the Napoleonic Wars, Jack Aubrey's ships, Roman and pre-Roman Britain, bird watching, photography, fishing, hunting, 4WDriving, exploration of the Pacific, castaways, palaeontology, environmental management, global warming, basketball, cricket and the mighty Carlton Football Club. Oh, I almost forgot to include the study of multi-cultural alcoholic beverages .

Welcome to the site. I started building Aurora and Lindberg tanks as a kid. Then the Matchbox and a company called MPC boxed Airfix kits here in the 80s. I think I built everyone they reissued.

I've recently re-discovered 1/72 scale and have been building new Revell, Dragon, Italeri/Esci, Mirage, Roden, Trumpeter, etc. kits in this scale.

Welcome aboard Armorama David!

One thing cool about Armorama is that evryone is "young", but some of the young guys remember much more things than the others! :-)

I read in your intro, that you like building 1/72 scale subs! Can you state which ones (appart from the recent Revell U-boat!!), since it is also one of my interests!!

If you need anything just ask!

Once again, welcome!!

DJC -
A most hearty welcome from one "older" modeler to another. I have no doubt that you'll enjoy your experience here at Armorama, it is truly a modeling family that unselfishly shares and supports. Seems we have similar background and interests like military service in 70s, enjoy military history (I have a degree in Ancient/Medieval history though enjoy all periods) and archaeology. My modeling interests are mainly 1/35 armour, particularly WW II but enjoy "expanding" out from time to time. Anxious to hear more from you and again welcome,

Welcome to the most comprehensive member inclusive site around.

It's good to see a braile scale person join the ranks. Feel free to offer all you expertise in that area. There are some closet small size people here.

Here's a drink from Southern US

Howdy Dave!

Allow me to wish you a very warm and hearty "Welcome!! to Armorama.

From your wee bio it definitely sounds like you and I would get along quite well, that is, except for your choice of football teams... (anyone who doesn't know that Preston North End is the 'bee's knee's' when it comes to football loses at least a full point in my book! :-) )

Again, welcome aboard.

Tread.

Oh, and about that "but older" part......there's a few of us 'oldies' around here as well as some 'youngen's', so you'll be in good company. In fact, I even think there's one of us here that remembers the Jurassic Period first hand.....and that would be our own Grumpyoldman!

Skipper

I have the Revell U-boot but it's still in the box. I have got a few sets of Hecker & Goros crew figures for it.

My other 1/72 submarine models are the Pit Road X-craft (lovingly test-fitted but no cyano applied yet) and the Fine Molds Type A Midget Submarine (major components assembled but still trying to figure out how to scratch build the antii submarine net cutter as fitted to the subs involved in the Sydney Harbour attack).

Melbourne has a significant Turkish community and I have enjoyed meals in many of our great Turkish restaurants but I can't say that I have ever tried Raki. I will see if I can buy a bottle tomorrow.
