You know you're getting old when you are still in uniform and one of your kids is getting into uniform as well. My wife's oldest son from her first marriage has joined the Army and will be going to Ft. Benning for basic training. He will attend AIT at Ft. Rucker and become an air traffic controller.

He ought to have a lot of fun there

Oh, he is going to love "SAND HILL" at Benning!
Just wait to you go to a function and both of you are in uniform. I was stationed in Weisbaden, Germany the same time my dad was stationed in Bad Kisagen. It was kinda fun to here his troops call us Sgt. B and Spc B.
Next month, we are going to a military ball sponsored by the local VFW and we will both be in uniform, even though my dad is retired. The funny thing is he retired as a SSG and now I am a SGT. Every one will be calling for SGT B. and we will both turn around to answer.

Lots of luck!

Best of luck to him at the Sand 'Hilton'. Shouldn't be too hot or too cold this time of year.

I wonder if they still use 'cattle' trucks. Like to see someone do a softskin of that.

It's a great feeling to see your son go into the service! I've had the additional privilege of actually being able to administer the oath. First when he enlisted in the Navy, second when he enlisted in the Army National Guard, and finally when he took the oath as a Navy Ensign. He's in the IRR while going to Med school and will eventually become a Navy doc.

Takes a lot of character for kids to go into the service today since we're at war.

I wish him good luck!

He's a stepson so we have different last names. Besides, by the time he reaches sergeant, I'll be a retired lieutenant colonel.

I know they still used them back in 1993 when I went to Knox for Basic...and we had normal buses also which was interesting to get on to with a full ruck lol
