Howdy All,

On another thread regarding who plays which FPS-based video games like Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942, Medal of Honour, etc.
It was established that a decent number of members here aside from sharing the love of modeling all things military, also share a liking for military 'shooter' games as well.

What I am trying to accomplish with this thread is to evaluate the feasibility of starting up a semi- 'official' gaming night for Armorama members using the game Battlefield 1942 as the starting point. The advantage of BF '42 over other FPS games is it's extensive use of vehicles in the gameplay. For those who may not be familiar with the game, there is a virtual plaethora of different vehicles to fly, drive, sail, etc.
Additionally, the core Battlefield 1942 game has was called a 'Mod' written for it called' Desert Combat ' that is the same game, only all of the vehicles are modern day vehicles including helicopters, missle launchers, etc.

So, all who might be interested in at least trying this out and potentially participating in an 'Armorama Game Night' please just respond here in this thread with your input, and suggestions regarding such things as what night sounds good to you, what 'handle' you might want to use while playing, who's glutes you might want to kick while 'in game', etc, etc, etc..............

Thanks for taking the time to stop by and consider this extension of the Armorama universe!

Tread.

Okay, I'm in.

I have HL2, COD, Call of Duty United Offensive, Counter Strike, Counter Strike Source, all on PC currently installed. COD would be my first choice. What server is everyone playing on?

I have all of the above games and just need to know when and what server. I am up for BF1942, but would also go for Call of Duty UO.

I have BF 1942, but not with me at the dorm. I have Medal of Honor and UO, as well as Half Life 2 and CS Source. But I am up for the idea. Let us know what the final game will be and the time (obvioustly that will be the hardest to set up).

Could we set up a Teamspeak Server or a ventrilo server too?

I might like to give this a shot, though I didn't really care for BF42. I run dial up, so it's possible this would not be very successful.

I always use the handle "Shonen Red". I got BF-1942 and BFV at the moment. How about we set up a server that is always on? So players from around the world can get in anytime.

I play BF1942 but I've never played it online, never seem to have time to set down and stay with it. Just run a stort battle, kill a few bad guys and do something else Might have to try it sometime..

LOL..they still have dial-up?

I have just about all first person military games out there. Give me a time and place and I will do my best to be there.

Preference would be CoD or MoH over BF 1942 though.

I have Call of Duty and COD: United Offensive. I'd be all for a game...although I am back in school now (night classes to, doh!) So I can do my best to join in eventually...

What, no Joint Operations? Tanks, attack helicopters and Javelin AT missiles in the expansion pack. Plus the dirt bike which is a lot of fun.

So I wanted to refresh this thread because I forgot to mention anyone interested in a game night or online gaming in general should download Xfire.

Xfire is a free instant messenger that does several things:

1. Join any friend in-game (provided you have game installed) simply by double-clicking their name. This eliminates the need for "what server are you in" or "what is the server IP?" Just click their name and if there is room in the server, voila!

2. Instant message any person on your list while they are in-game and the message appears in the bottom right corner of their screen without having to alt-tab out to read and respond to it.

3. Shows you exactly what everyone else is playing as well as lets you see the information for the server they are in (# of people, map, etc.)

Anyway, head on over to http://www.xfire.com and check it out for yourself! Remember, it is FREE and you don't opt-in for spam or anything like that. If you get it, post your username here and this will help us all to meet up!

Howdy BulletTooth,

Many thx to you for your efforts to shine the 'limelight' back on this thread. I have had some computer problems as of late (separate thread) and have not been around lately......

Your suggestion of the XFire software is a superior one. It really looks quite useful indeed, and I have already downloaded it along with the latest version of TeamSpeak2.

Now......gettting back to giving this idea of an Armorama 'Game Night' idea some legs.........

First, I have no problem with establishing a proper game server so that gameplay is always available, since I already have a 24/7 cable connection, that shouldn't be much of a problem.
I will work on that immediately. What I really need some help with from those of you out there who are more computer 'literate' than I is; someone to help me with all of the 'technical' gobbletegook.......maybe matt or?

O.K......here's a bit of fun.....how about some suggestions for the name of the server?......should the word "Armorama" be used in the title, or will our most humble and generous Staff_Jim mind if we use the title of his most illustrious creation serve as the name for a place where gamers 'frag' each other till the sun goes down ???

Server name suggestions and/or offers of assistance anyone????

your humble 'gaming' servent......

Tread.
