well..as u may have seen after i recreated the lab i ahve two long benches of space to work 70 cm of width and also more than 2,5 meters in length .(US guys translate to feet and inches please !!)
Well that would be more than every average modeller could use or need, even for making a big diorama.
But when i start to paint a figure and need all kinds of paints , papers, files, knives, brushes, thines , syringes , wires and what ever i use on them , they add up over my working space and at the end after 2-3 days of work i only work in a small part of it !!!!
Well starnge think is that this do not bothers me at all. But happens to me all time. I am cleaning and tiding up my benches at the exact same time i put a them in the showcase and wanna start next one . but .....after some days the same effect takes place....
well at the moment working on a 100mm Sioux Indian figure , from all my benches space what i have "clear" to work is what u see in the pic. Does this happens to everyone ? or its just me ?
Happy modelling

Happens to us all.
I frequently end up using the low-level horizontal storage facility (okay the floor!)

hi bro,
it is the same in my modelling den. it would be good to show this photo to Figen when back at home but i know what she will say;
..now i realize better why Costas and you are so close and call each as brothers. :-)

You'll find that no matter the size of your workspace - during a project you will expand to fit the available open space. There has to be some math therum or physics formula
Chaos = openspace X 2 + (project complexity / due date *8) +32.
Happens to all of us.....

Viva...
Well, you are so afortunate to have some space of your own to work on modelling, I usually have to use my computer desk, and with her so full of dvd's and cd's there's not very much space to work!
So I use the kitchen table, and as you can imagine, everyday i finish doing something I have to clean it all, otherwise, my wife will "gently" pick up all tools and brushes and paints and throw them out the window... :-) Of course, I joking she wont do something like that... or is she?
Like you all, my desk always ends up a real mess, but as I said before, I always have to clean it up every day...
See yaaa

well Scott having studied Physics at the University i was aware of this formula , and have studied a lot of it. The correct one is
Chaos = openspace X 2 + (project complexity / due date *8) +3200000
u seem to escaped some zero's !!!! LOL.

I clean the table everytime I start a new model. After a few days it looks like a war zone, but I still know were my stuff is. It's driving my wife nuts since I'm sitting at the diningtable, in the livingroom. She'll just have to learn to live with it, untill the kids move away from home(In about 20 years) and I get MY room back.

Well I have a modeling table of about 1,5 meters and few shelfs, but I never have enough space( alway's use the floor as storage).
And I alway's end up in the living room.
All my stuff migrate's (drive's the girfriend crazy )
I also ure the kitchen for my airbrushing (maybe I need a new work space )
But nomatter how big my work space is I alway model on the move

Yep that looks like my desk. I have to tidy mine up nearly every day otherwise the kids and the beloved start "borrowing" things (paint, brushes, files, tweezers, my sanity). Must be an illness us modellers have

THE SPACE DISAPPEARENCE CONUNDRUM
Fact 1.
Nature abhors a vaccum.
Fact 2.
Open bench space = vaccum.
Fact 3.
Nature causes balance.
So:
Space / PJ (projects) + Peanut butter sandwich- cat(put outside)must be > available surface area of bench tops.

Hmm seems we all have the same kind of attitude. Maybe we should create a virtual modelling room with unlimited space and millions of unbuilded kits and unlimited supplies. and...oopppss time to wake up for job........................ :-)

I thought I was bad. My workspace in the basement has become to cluttered (and cold) so I've followed the natural migritory path from the basement to the living room table (and heat) much the charign of my wife. :-)

I too have found this to be a problem.. I keep filling up every spare section of space.. even though I have tons of shelf and drawer storage in my hobby closet... it just appears.. i tend to clean up every few days during a project just to keep a workspace open...

I also work at the kitchen table, so mandatory cleanup is in effect, and my co-habitants use every opportunity to remind me...
For storage, I use the floor, bookshelves, tops of closets, the bed headrest, the space at the foot of the bed, drawers, the computer table... At the rate I'm going, I'll be expanding to the bathroom (decals stored seperately :-) )
Cheers,
Tvrtko

You should see how small my modeling space is I drive tractor trailer over here in the U.S. I model in the sleeper area Thankfully the bottom bed can convert into a table/chair set
