I can't beleive that someone here hasnt already suggested this, or maybe they have and I'm only half remembering...

But looking at the "what's in the stash" thread, it seems like there are a lot of us who have more partly-built models in the stash than the law ought to allow. Many of us with names like Mike.

These are clearly holding up future purchases schedule...

So to this afternoon as I was staring at the wall o part-builts, I decided to find the oldest unfinished kit and work toward finishing it off.

AMT's Star Trek Reliant is now 90% decaled and within an evening in the hobby room of being done.

It will never win any beauty contests, the decals have the old yellow gunk under the film -I know I could have taped them into a window and had the sunlight bleach them, but I did not want to wait for that-

It IS an AMT Trek kit, so the seams are horid, the panel lines are trenches .. yadda yadda.. but it is almost FINISHED!

So, every month this year I am going to try to pull one of the old shelf dogs out and finish it off.

I'm not suggesting a campaign or even a group build, but more of a 12 step type support group -meaning no disrespect to folks who are helped by real 12 step programs-

" Hi, I'm Mike and I have too many unfinished models."

Anyone else want to play along?

Mike

who shoulda thought of this last year, "build more in 04" is a better slogan...

I share this illness and the desire to get help. I too can pull something off the shelf to finish at least once a month. Heck - I have two years worth at this rate. I'll join you.

We could call it "Model a Month Club"...

Hmm...

Very good idea as I have about six unfinished sitting on the shelf. Then once those are gone I could start on the new ones, then actually get more. The possibilities are endless

I was thinking of something like that,10 in 2005
Set out 10 unbuilt kits to do in 2005.
Due to campaigns I have a few already chosen.
C-119- Remember Korea.
M-32B1 for Mud sweat and Gears. And a Diorama
1/12th Mercury capsule
Type 94 for a Diorama
Academy M-4A2 For the diorama.

So I can pick 5 more to do during this year.

Yes, my name is Mike and i have no unfinished models on my shelf. That is to say...uh...they are still in their boxes and I sometimes open them and smell them. I like to pull out the instructions and then I make cooing noises.

So, since I have not started them, they still count as "stash"

I like my stash. iits what makes me "me".

I can't wait until I have enough of those bee yooo tee ful boxes so I can build a fort.

Ha! Bloody unlikely.

I model, therefore I start and never finish some ...

Ditto

Though I have pulled one to finish for the DDD Campaign. I should finish my Heller Super Connie instead of wondering what it would like finished.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one who pulls a kit from the stash, open the box, go through the instructions...but, I tend to whimper instead of coo.

If I never opened another box, and just finished the started ones, I'd have enough to keep me busy for a year or two..... :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
But slowly and surely we move forward through the campiagns

My name is Brian ...errr sorry - for today it is Mike - I have too many unfinished kits. Most only require 2 - 3 hours work to be finished but - I have already moved on to another kit and can't go back to finish.

Anyway as I tell SWMBO I don't have a decent display cabintet and until I get that there is not too much point in finishing any kits as they just go straight into a cardboard box in storage.

Unfinished at the moment

1/350 HMS Prince of Wales - needs paint (6 colour scheme)

1/48 - DML Ju88 A-4 - pig of a kit - has nearly flown a number of times - on second paint job now.

1/48 AM Avenger - slowly getting there - don't weant to stuff this one up - only decals to go

1/48 Revell Zero for Double Take campaign - 27 parts means I will finish this one quickly.

1/35 - Panzer II and Panzer IV(J) - both Tamiya both nice both - got bored - both just need decals and weathering.

1/35 Emhar Whippet - amazing model - more filler than plastic - have put about a dozen pieces together filled the gaps and set it aside for the putty to dry before sanding - haven't got back to the sanding yet.

1/35 - Large number of troops Allied and Axis - probably about 35 in various states on undress - umm I mean painting.

1/72 - Airfix E Boat - what more can I say.

And that is it - well for this week - next week I will probably be able to add the Tamiya 1/35 Chruchill VII and Annakins Pod Racer which I class as currently working on at the moment. :-)

I wopuld like to make a vow to complete one unbuilt kit per month - but I don't think I have the strength when I see what is beckoning from the "STASH".

Hi... my nameis Not Mike... but like Mike I suffer from a stash pile that is bigger than the day is long and I can't make a dent.
I also suffer from 'can't pass up an ebay deal' which directly contributes to a stash growing larger than my fingers can build.

My goal for 05 was to look at the OLDER kits that have been collecting more dust than I have collected kits and work on those to clean out the old stuff.

So, on January 1 I pulled out the 2nd gift I ever got from my dad and started it. Its Minicraft Model Kits 1829 Stephenson Rocket. Hardly an armor kit, can't qualify for a softskin but now with the introduction of a Civilian forum - It has a home.

Well, I wish I could join you guys in this, but I just only recently became owner of my very own first little stash of unbuilt or unfinished boxes, of which I'm really proud, as it finally qualifies me as a fullgrown modeler!!!!

Since shortly I also became fully aware of the strange and wonderfull laws of physics which are deeply rooted into the modeling building world:
-the more boxes I have the more I seem to want
-the more I have the less I actually ever build.
-the more boxes I have the more the girl complains.
-boxes in a modelshop always look more attractive than boxes on your own shelve (even the same boxes)

Building a model is fun for aslong as it lasts, but an unstarted box is a joy forever!!!

aaah modelling, you got to love it!!!

Its the shiney stuff on the outside of th box.. It glitters and gleams under the beautiful flourecent lights.. They cast a spell even worse then the smell of your favorite meal cooking..
They draw us in, untill we can not resist.. We purchase them by the arm load... Tis a heavy heavy burden we bear...

Hi, my name is Jeff and I'm a Modelholic!
It's been two days since my last sniff of glue.
I have about 6 unfinished/unpainted models in my closet and on the shelf. My airbrush is in the UNHEATED garage so I have to wait until the Spring Thaw to finish painting. One of the unfuinished kits, Airfix's Monty's Humber, will probably never be finished since,IMHO, the kit is CRAP! I have to put Zimmerit on the unfinished Brumbaer(late) from Dragon. I really have to be in the mood to Zimmerit.
My stash is a DIFFERENT story!
I have about 30 unbuilt vehicle kits and just about every Tristar, Dragon and ICM WW II figure kit available.
My wife doesn't say anything because she also has her little obsessions like.....QVC...OH THE HUMANITY!!!!
BUT....this still doesn't stop me from collecting new kits. Anytime Squadron or Greatmodels Webstore have something on sale that I MUST have I usually buy
it. I just bought the Dragon Hummel (initial version) for $14.99 from squadron.
I'm a SICK Modelling FREAK.....and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!
Ha Ha Ha MUHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

YES! I say the same thing! Though I consider myself blessed that at last, after 18 years of marriage and kids, I have...My own room in which to build! I have made the comment that I'll not tolerate this any longer and have decided on a take over of the family room...and install display cabinets!

Does Armorama qualify as a support group?...maybe I can deduct this on my taxes....

I too have a severe problem with unfinished model kits. Off the top of my head, I have the following kits started but not finished:

AFV Club SdKfz. 11

Tamiya

M2 Bradley
M2A2 Bradley
M26 Pershing
Wespe
37mm Flak
M1A1 Abrams

There are more but I can't remember them at the moment. I have promised my wife that I will not buy any new kits until I complete 5 that are currently in my stash. So, I need therapy immediately. I will seek help with the rest of you. At least now we know that there are others out there that share the same "sickness"!

well i have a good proposal since i ahve seen many times that there are people with stashes that range 50 -100-200 even 500 + unbuild models. Why dont we organize a huge armorama give away ? that would start perfectly a new year !!!!!! think of it . Giving is a happiness , even for a stash maker !!!!! and people that receive will also be very happy . stash will be reduced also !!!!! what is one kit for the happiness u get and give ?

That's part of my problem, two of my 'must builds' are Pass the Stash Trash kits exchanged with other builders in clubs or email groups I participate in.

I've got a Blackburn to build for Aug, and a Revell of Germany Titanic to do for mid-summer...

Oooh, this sounds like fun. Oh shoot, I already commited to some group builds. I guess the unfinished ones will have to wait a little while longer, and I still have some closet space for a few more purchases this year.

I should definately take part in this. I have alot of older "garbage" kits that have sat around for at least 10 years! (hey im only 22) The thing with me is I buy new kits and just can't start them until I finish some or get rid of the "garbage" kits. It is a never ending cycle I tell you! Seriously, I need to build my butt off in '05

I really don't have that many unfinished kits....

If you only count models that are mostly built and need some final work, there are only three, and all three of those are because something horrible happened during the painting process and I need to correct or completely strip each.

There are a couple more models that were finished, but have sustained damage during moving or feline intervention and need fairly extensive repairs.

I've got a Italeri hummer that needs to be re-painted. I've got a Tamiya Bradley that I have to face facts and I will never properly accurize to the standards of some of the Bradleys I've seen here, so I may as well pick a color and finish it*.

I've also got the TOS Enterprise that was supposed to be for the Sci-Fi group build a while back, but at some point between painting and wiring up lighting the paint turned... gooey. I'm still trying to figure out why that happened - it was just a couple coats of Tamiya acrylic white, nothing fancy like clear coats or anything at that point.

*As I've learned more about the accuracy of different manfuacturers colors to the real thing from this website, I've put several different shades of tan on this thing. I suspect I should just strip it (again) and pick one and go with it, rather than trying to get the perfect be-all-to-end-all shade of US Army desert tan.

Yeah.. why not sounds like fun. The hard part is being commited I too suffer of having to many kits started, opened or just added to the pile. With many kits that i'll never get to in this life time, the problum with me is that i see a kit and i have to buy it now and not have to worry that i wont be able to get it another time or never find it again. Oh and that goes for aftermarket parts and decals. So.. yeah why not, i'll give it a shot

Maybe we could list all the kits we want to get rid of and have a giant swap meet.
