Joined army reserve as a supply specialist in May of '86. Did my basic at Ft jackson and my AIT at Ft Lee.
Hated supply and became a combat engineer in 89. Left the reserves and joined the USMC in 90. Went to boot at MCRD San Diego. Servrd 4 years in the Marines as an 1833 amphobious assault crewman. Absolutely loved it. Did two WESTPACS. Evacuated civilians from the phillipines when Mt. Pinitubo eruptrd and lead the initial landings in Somalia w/ BLT 2/9 Marines. Left the Corps in 94. realized I made a serious mistake and joined the Army in 95. Now I'm a M1 Abrams tank mechanic. Been stationed at FT. Riley, Vilseck GE, Friedgerg GE, and Ft Knox. Spent 6 months in Macedonia for Operation Able Sentry and 15 months in Iraq for OIF.

The beauty of the Spec 4 rank was not unlike that of a Warrant Officer.... you fell into a sort of a gray area...when the "stuff" rolled down hill, it either stopped at the NCOs above you, or rolled on past to the privates below you.....

Whoa - 1SG Steve - I was in Augsburg from 7/85 to 7/87, in 3d Ops Battalion. Which Kaserne did you work at? I lived on Sheridan (which is apparently a new housing development these days) and worked at Gab as a ditdot. I had as little contact as possible with the men with the blue lights, though I had many roommates arrested for DUI's and public drunkeness and such.

I was in the artillery for 9 month, as a draftee. 3 month of basic training, 6 month working on a 155 mm Howitzer.
I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
