My wife, recently ordered some Christmas decorations from a T V shopping channel (although not model related it could have an affect on us modellers). The baubles came from China and a big bug crawled out when she opened the package. I don't know if it was poisonous or not, but it just goes to show you don't know whats in the box with the stuff you've ordered. (What if it had come from Australia with a funnel web hitch hiker?)
Be careful

Well, I hope you killed it before it had a chance to hide and reproduce in some dark corner of your house.

I have heard stories of black widow spiders traveling in grapes of tarantulas among bananas. How would you like to put your hand into a bag to grab a piece of fruit only to find a black spider attached to your finger?

When We moved back from Australia We put some furniture in storage for a month or so, when we un packed it I was setting up the stereo player I was plugging in the leads when I saw a Red Back spider in the corner of the set I pointed this out to friends and family members who had gathered to drink tea and watch me hump all the furniture in,I have never seen a room empty so fast :-) i whacked the poor thing The kids were little then and those little buggers can be lethal. not the kids the spiders. :-)

Normally Tesco's(supermarket chain) gets slated on people finding spiders in the bananna bunches a couple of times a year, the best ones for me though were these two,
one person bought some popcorn
from a shop (woolworths) and found a mouldy tooth inthe bag

some one bought a tin of sweetcorn from (Morrisons)
and was eating them for tea only to put a rotten tip of a finger in her mouth the sweetcorn came from canada so if you know any one missing a figer who works(ed) in a food proccessing plant you can tell them were it ended up

This is why I never order anything overseas online. Just because of stuff like this.

i know of a friend who
bought some stuff from the u.s. it arrived when he was out of town for a few days so it sat at the post office
he eventually got it opened it up and inside was a blackwidow
he didnt know this at the time and proceeded to poke it !
luckily england damp cold climes made it very dossile so it didnt bite ,and he called the R.S.P.C.A.
they came and took it to a local invertibrates dealer
i think ?
but she'd spun a nice thick web all over the clothes he bought! .now when ever i buy stuff from o/s/ i'm mindful of this event and remember to check it carefully

O.K. these are kinda 'accidental' - a bit stupid but not entirely lunatic. This on the other hand is totally lunatic... Locusts In November... I just wish it wasn't true...Jim :-)
