My youngest daughter is reading a poem at the National Korean War Veteran's Memorial here in Brampton this morning at the ceremonies and my oldest is bringing to class some photos we took at Vimy and Beaumont Hamel last year. I couldn't be prouder of either of them.

My kids don't get a chance to forget, living around me, but I think we all have to make an effort to help others around us remember. At my old company I used to send out a short, company-wide email that extolled the sacrifices and honours that our soldiers have earned in the past. The corporate president, several of the managers and a lot of my co-workers replied in appreciation for the reminder.

If your company doesn't have a policy forbidding it, I would ask that people here make a similar attempt. Many other nationalities proudly retell their military histories over the course of the year, but we Canadians can be an awfully indifferent lot when it comes to our military heritage. Any small act of rememberance we can bring before the general public can only serve the greater good.

If there is a policy, ask your HR department if you can write a short (1-2 paragraphs) little piece for display on the net or on public bulletin boards. It will take you a couple minutes, but can mean a lot to the men and women that we honour by building models of their vehicles.

Give it a try, it'll make you feel really good.

Yes today is a day of rememberance, I can't believe that they are even debating the issue as to whether to make Rememberance Day a National Holiday in Canada, should have been done so long ago.

New Brunswick where I work just made it a statory holiday last year, and this year is the first Rememberance Day since it took effect.

I work for a very large company, and my primary job is reservations sales for Budget Rent A Car. Unfortunatly we are a 24/7 company, so we can't close for anything, we are even opened on Xmas!!!

However when I arrived for my shift today, just before 11am, there were signs up all over the call center stating that at 11min past 11am there would be a 2 min silence in the center, to respect our vetrans, and that we were to put ourselves in Aux 1 (not taking calls) and if we were on a call, to put the customer on hold for the 2 mins of silence.

I have never worked for a company that went to this measure to make sure we recognized our vetrans, and actually put the business on hold, albeit only for 2 mins, but is alot more than what you would see most companies do. I was very impressed. You could have heard a pin drop in the call center.

So to anyone that works for Cendant and you happen to read this, I just want to say thank you as a business for having a heart in this type of situation!!

HI

I do not mean to sound ignorant but the word "happy" should not be used with Nov 11. I think the vets would not consider the D-Day landings as a cause for happy thoughts.

I fully understand that you do indeed mean well so please do not take this a personal attack.

I have been in uniform for 26 years and go to local schools to participate in their ceremonies. When the kids call me a hero, I turn to the "young" fellows beside me and tell the kids that these gentlemen are the heroes.

I spent the day talking to kids about Remembrance Day. This morning with a High school in Toronto and this evening with about 50 Scouts and Girl Guides. Everyone in uniform should do this every Remembrance Day regardless of rank otr experience. Part of passing the torch.

I'm happy that I'm free because of the bravery of these men.
