Im skipping school and taking my dad out for breakfast and spend the day with him. He's taking the day off and I think he deserves it. It was always weird, of everybody in our family he was/is the only one who would actually have to work on Veteran's Day-- and he's the only Vet in our family!

My dad served in Vietnam from 69-70, almost a full year but he was wounded and sent home just shy of a full tour. Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars..besides all that-- I'm proud of him and all our Vets.

Not a bad idea Sean!
I think I am going to call my dad and see if he is going to take tomorrow off as well.
He is a Gulf War vet along with me as well.
I guess I will get dressed in my Class B's and take him to lunch, the two Gulf War vets, the two Sergeants, out having a father and son day.

Well, to all my bothers and sisters in arms, past and present, I wish you all a good Veterans Day.

And to all that are not in the military or those of you that are just wishing us a good Veterans Day, THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

DUTY - HONOR - COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim, I'm so sorry that I did not include the other parts of the commonwealth in my morning's post sir...Many apologies and I must say that I was half asleep when I did...Although, still no excuse for not including as such.

Sincerely,
Gunny

Salutations to all my brother veterans.

It is indeed our day to remember our days in service, honor those who served before and since, and to lift a cup to those brothers and sisters in arms who are no longer with us.

I'm going to the parade in downtown Leavenworth tomorrow morning. I'll wear my old OD field jacket, just to give others a frame of reference of my service (end of Vietnam through plenty of Cold War to after Desert Shield/Desert Storm).

If given the opportunity, wear a poppy ...

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, in the 11th month, 1918 the "war to end all wars" shall come to an end.
I hope we take a minute or two at 11am, to remember those who didn't come home, requardless of "sides"......
