I caught this story on the news last night...truly unbelievable, something like this could happen...over a school, of all places....somebody should be held responsible for this mishap...

I do apologize, but this would fall into current events therefore
I am freely deleting my posts, on the subject.
Once again I do apologize to the members for starting this thread.

Dave,
I heard this on TV then saw an article in the paper.
I think the issue of "current events" goes more to avoiding discussions of politics rather than a reference to something like this. So, for my money, you coluld have kept this in place.

AJ, I believe this is Grumpy's subtle way of pointing out the fact that the "Current Events" rule is seen to apply only when certain moderators feel it needs to apply. Winess a recent topic which was locked, while in the 'History Forum, a poster was actually REQUESTED by the moderator to share his views on recent events. Whatcha' Gonna Do?

I'll throw a synopsis in, just in case someone thinks weird stuff.
Seems a NJ ANG F-16 on a night training mission accidently fired 25 shells into a school.
I can just see the debriefing on that:

Yep.......
The latest on the news were the guns misfired, and the pilot was just as surprized as everybody else.
Since Egg Harbour is that not far from me, just got me wondering what would have happened if the guns
just misfired" over
the hospital where I work, or over the apartment complex where I live.

Oh man. I read this news today in the papers & was really shocked. Misfired? So what if there was a class in this school would the victims be treated as some sort of collateral damage? Egg Harbor is somewhere south of my location & come to think of it Fort Dix is a stone throw away from Six Flaggs. What if somebody had an accident there?!

Im wondering, this could happen to any pilot, a vulcan cannon would take just about a quarter of a second to fire those 25 shells. What they should do is to get that target practice away from schools

On a lighter note, some years ago over East Anglia, a very flat area on the Eastcoast of England, a Belgian F16 pilot on lowlevel livefire exersise got quite a shock when his treath warning went off, and his missile locked on to a radar which had locked on to him. Realising that the likelyhood of a sam site was remote, he overrode the system and didn't fire a missile.
Which was lucky for the policeman who was tracking him with his speed radar gun, as he had mistaken the low aircraft for a speeding car on the horizon.......

This one seems to be something of an urban myth. Check out this site:

This is the first I'd heard about Egg Harbor. I guess the newspapers here are too concerned with which celebrity is doing what (or who) to print any relevant new anymore. Glad to hear noone was hurt tho.

Cheers

My grandparents live in Little Egg Harbor, apparently at the time there was a janitor in the building. What I heard is that all but 9 rounds hit the parking lot, the others hitting the roof, causing splinters.... that really all I remember about what they told me.

A couple years back (maybe three) somebody dropped a live bomb on woods close to the road to little egg harbor, causing a large forest fire, the road I think kept it from spreading. The are still shows scars from that incident.
