Ya la, sink, stove, oven cleaner is all the same thing.
Just add a bit of water to it, and coat the areas you want to strip the paint, leave for about 6 hours and it should come off nicely.

I would be able to find this stuff at stores like Jusco, Parkson or Giant? I am not very familiar with shopping in this country just yet so a little guidance would be appreciated. Thanks so much for your comments and help .... they are an immense help to me!

Some days I feel like an alien but actually I am an American married to a Malay. I have been living here for a little more than two years and still have trouble finding "things" on the store shelves. Such as the Castrol Cleaner or Easy Off Oven cleaner --- I know the American products by name but haven't a clue what the Malay substitutes would be.
btw, THANKS for tip (and the picture of the Cif/Jif ... should have no problem finding the stuff this time!) for stripping the enamel guys. I use tilex or window cleaner when I need to remove acrylics but they don't work on the enamels.

Mislmd Welcome again to the M'sian forum and too Malaysia. Other than your first post about the books we haven't heard from you for a while.

Seems to be more of a housekeeping topic (hehheh)Sorry can't help you much with the enamels. I used enamels (old Airfix paints) when I was a kid and I remembered stripping off the paints with turpentine. As for Jif which is now known as Cif due to a company buyout, you can find in most supermarkets.

I've a few more thoughts on the books if your'e still looking for them. Popular bookstores and MPH do occassionaly carry AFV and especially airplane books. I've bought a book or two from Popular on AFV which was on sale too.

Maybe you would like to share with us some of the models your'e working on. I think I speak for everyone here that we would be more than happy to help you out with finding your way around Malaysia, besides Silantra's "kind" offer to clean your oven. Silantra when your'e done with Mislmd's oven can you do mine too?

BTW has anybody figured out how South Africa become a Malaysian state, not that I'm complaining, South Africa looks like a country I can collect lots of vege for preserving for my dios.

I found out there are a few ways to post in other community forums, when someone post a topic, under their callsign etc is the name of their country underlined, if you click that it will transport you to their community forum.

Beachbum ....

My models include Tamiya's Tiger I Aus E (Sd.Kfz.181) Mid Production, Marder III M, German Sd.kfz. 250/9 and T34/76 Tank "ChTZ" Version 1943 Production. I also have AFV Club's M-88 Nam Track Recovery Tank (Bergenpanzer).
I love MPH! Never been to Popular bookstores but will mention it to my husband and perhaps he knows where we can find one. Are they located throughout Malaysia like MPH? I have found a few armour vehicle books at Mid-Valley's MPH (probably read them from cover to cover about 50 times by now!) ... and we even managed to find two Osprey Publishing books ... Basic Aviation Modelling and Basic Armor Vehicle Modelling. Gonna buy the "Steel Storm" book soon which is filled with details on the Battle of Kursk ... which is what I am hoping to use as the "brainchild" of my first diorama! I came across a reference photo on the internet of a Tiger I tank hiding behind a isba (Russian loghouse) waiting and watching for Russian T-34's. Also we have been glancing through some of the internet sources for books and probably will have to order online.
Now for another technical question for the experienced pros here .... since there are ways for stripping paints I was wondering is there a way to "unglue" SuperGlue if you make a mistake? or what about elephant glue? I figure once glued your glued BUT if there's a way to weaken the bond I'm all ears!

hi siti aisyah.. i just knew that you're a lady! This is my first encounter of a lady modeler in Malaysia.. well technically you're not Malaysian..but that's count!!

ok about hose books and mph...well MPH have several branches throughout the country. But the one in Mid Valley megamall is the biggest while other branches stock less book particularly history/war/hobby book...so better stay out of the MPH if they're not at Mid Valley...
While Popular books store really popular! They're everywhere too....

to unglue superglue, u can use product called debonder. They have several brands and so far i only managed to see them sold at Ace Hardware, Midvalley.

Welcome from us all, and if you have any more questions to ask, don't hesitate to post 'em!

BTW, do you and your hubby both model, or is it just you? I've never met another female modeller..closest I ever got was women who were intereted in WW2 stuff...

Cheers!

Yes we do ... however ... he is way better at it than me!
In the beginning I was just interested in the "research" part like collecting pictures and background info for him. Back in the US I was a journalist for a small town newspaper for about 7 years so helping him with the research was simple enough. After reading the history stuff and seeing pictures of the amazing dioramas some people have made ... such as the Mr. Allan at Minature Hobby at MidValley ... you could say I got "bit" by the modeller's bug.
Mostly I am interested in the German Armoured Vehicles from the WW2 period because my father's relatives owned the Berlin Opera House ... which was where Hitler gave his last speech. I would love to build a diorama depicting the rubble of the Opera House just to preserve that teeny bit of family history! Not sure why Hitler picked that particular spot to deliver his speech but I did acquire a book from the Berlin Archives regarding the Opera House and my ancestors about 10 years back which I presented to my dad for his 50th birthday. Unfortunately it was written all in German! Hey but there were pictures of relatives so I think we can call it a good "genealogy" find.
And so this is how my interest in modeling began ....
