Well, it's been a couple of days & I was wondering how our brethren & Sistren(?) in the path of Frances have fared? I understand Kencelot checked in with his (big? little?) brother PvtParts. Anyone else dry out yet? Animal? Husky? Anyone? (Bueller? Bueller?)
I realize Power is still out to about 3 million, but anybody have cellpohne contact, perhaps...?

Probably still without power. Looks like Florida is going for a trifecta with Ivan heading their way. At least they still have a sense of humor...

Just got our power on. Frances did a number on our town this time. We only have minor roof damage but a lot of my neighbors lost every thing. The beach side really took a beating this time. I don't think I will stay here for the next one. The worst part is after the storm passes. This one took almost 36 hours to pass over us. It was like living in a train tunnel with the train coming through. We are all fine but it will be some time before we get every thing back to a normal way of life this time. Our local shopping center was nearly destroyed completely. Basic needs are in short supply right now. But I think that we will have every thing back in a few more days. That is if Ivan will leave us alone this time. My Daughter and Son In-law lost the back of the mobile home and part of the roof. They don't have insurance but FEMA says that they will help them some. But all in all we are alive and well and I can't wait to get everything cleaned up around here so that I can get back to building again. See you later.

Ciao RobH,
Dude, I'm here. We here in Pensacola are thanking our lucky stars for not having been punished by either one yet, but now Ivan lurks on the horizon. Continue to cross your fingers and I am praying that we are not in the path of any of these monsters.
Man, it's been a tough season this one.
Ciao for now
Rob

Hey Grumpy you need to keep your head down with Ivan. It looks like it is going to head your way in the Panhandle. I think we will be out of harms ways with this one.

Yeah, I don't think Ivan (unless it turns dead north) will really hit much of Florida. Last I saw, it was south of Cuba heading up. But I know - somewhat - those hurricanes can do. My family and I had two come close to us when we lived in Tampa. They had seriously downgraded themselves when they hit us (high catagory tropical storms - catagory 1 hurricanes) so I can't say I've survived anything close to what you guys are going through.

What I find funny is how people know its the Sunshine state yet they don't know its the Lightning Capital of the World. On top of those hurricanes we had many tornados zip through our county, innumerable flash floods (we would regularly watch people canoe and raft down major intersections of Tampa), and everything in between including 100% humidity 90 degree days with a broken air conditioner. I'm satisfied with just tornadoes and rain up here (and snow - nothing like having a snow day ).

One funny story about the heat though. I was at a Boy Scout camp once and it got to 115 (without the heat index) with easily 100% humidity. They closed every workshop and event down except for the lake (obviously). So there were about 300 of us in a decent sized lake - but it was known to have an alligator or two! Let me tell you that no alligator stopped us from cooling off, except for that one kid used to ride broncos and thought it would be fun...

Stay safe (and dry)
Jeff

Good news indeed.
Glad you are both OK.
Keep your heads down.

Dave you mentioned re-locating to somewhere a little safer...thought about Wigan?

Cheers
