Hi there

Martin and I have been discussing how to put together a regular A-UK Competition. I think what he's started over on our MSN Site is an excellent idea, so I'd welcome everyone's input on what we should do here.

What would be really great would be to make the competition a way of rewarding UK members for their input to the Armorama as a whole.

There are a couple of obvious ways we could approach this:

1. An A-UK "User of The Month".
2. Submitting articles/reviews (we vote for the best each month).

Any others? The more the merrier!

Prizes? Well, I'm hoping I can get a UK retailer to sponsor us but, until then, I'm lucky enough to get a few samples sent to me and I'm happy to put things I don't want in the pot.

So? Any ideas? Don't worry, you won't be judged on your answers - this isn't the first competition!

All the best

I think the A-UK user of the month is a fine idea, but after a few months would we run out of candidates?
As for the best review/article, another good idea, could encourage more input?
Another idea is to have a Union Jack gallery, and each post one pic each month, or two months, with others voting on the best model? after each vote the gallery is cleared ready for the next lot

Hi again

Sorry if I've caused confusion: I've used A-UK to refer to the UK forum within Armorama as a whole

.

The idea is to run a competition for UK members on the Main Site (.com or .co.uk) in the Union Jack Club.

Having finally got things ship-shape on the Support Centre (that's tempted fate! ), I want to start moving the UK side of things along - apologies all 'round for being slack on this, but there's only so many hours in a day...

Anyway, I've added a Prime Target for UK Wares which should show on the .co.uk site. I'm working with Jim to get a system whereby A-UK stuff (there I go again! ) will show up for UK members - however you log on.

All the best

Rowan

I was a bit uncertain about how the Union Jack Club would affect A-Uk. Now I realise that both sites can be whatever we want them to be.
The A-UK site has more scope for getting ideas and input up straight away, with the links added here, such as competitions and articles reflecting British modelling.
I'm sure Merlin would want any input as to how the members would like both sites to run. I am always trying to think up ideas to get more involvement from the members, we can run our own campaigns and group builds, and if Merlin is offering some review samples as prizes........
(I should add that if he ever gets a Tamiya 1/16 remote tank kit as a review sample, BAGGSY I GET IT FIRST!!!!)

... A-UK is being killed off in favour of the union jack club... Is the union jack club supposed to be a replacement for A-UK or a competitor?

Hi James

As far as I know, there's no intention of killing of the UK MSN site - any more than the main MSN site.

When I built A-UK (MSN), I used the Main Site forums as a model, which resulted in needless duplication and a degree of confusion with people wondering what to post where - and it's also undeniable that the overwhelming preference has always been for a UK Forum on the Main Site.

It's a mistake to talk of "competitors" - Armorama should be an integrated Community - wherever it's hosted. A sad side-effect of the MSN forum was to draw a lot of "hits" away from the Main Site at just the time when it was important to count them to attract sponsors, so it's probably true to say that my efforts to help Armorama, ended up causing some damage to a greater or lesser degree...

Looking on the bright side, a back-up forum proves its worth when the Main Site server fails (as happened while I was away this Summer) - so I got something right!

Hi Martin

If something like that turned up in the post. I might just do a runner to the Costa Del Sol and run it up and down the beach!

no offence Merlin but when you complain of duplication on the main site on too A-Uk surely you are now going to have triplication if the unioin jack club goes "big" too.

Sorry James

I don't understand what you mean. How can a forum on the Main Site lead to "triplication"?

The whole point of the Communities on the Main Site is to keep everything in one forum, under one roof.

All the best
