I thught they had special height requirements for these guys. Was this something done for "British Humor" or is there that much of a discrepency isn't this the special Buckingham guards group or is this the fancy British Army uniform like the blue one the US Marines use.

steve,
the guards used to have a minimum height requirement, (armound 5'11'') but i dont think they insist on it anymore.
the uniform is the guards dress uniform, not just for palace guards. most british dress uniforms are far more elaborate than those of foreign armies, largely owing to the history of the regiments. bear in mind a few hundred years ago, they used to fight in those!
cheers

I think they quit fighting in those during the Boer War era went to Tans. Roarkes Drift shows them in the Red wasn't that in the late 1870's

Yup, they were still in the reds during the Zulu wars. thing about that was when the Zulu wars began, the british army had changed its uniforms to the tans ( as used in the Boer war) but the shipments of the new tan uniforms didnt reach the british colonys in south africa until after the zulu wars ended (rorkes drift took place on a wednesday, 22nd of January, 1879. and ended the next morning, on the 23rd )
