As many of you know, the military has transplanted me up here in Newport, RI for six months so I need to get some direction from some locals on some good hobby shops in the area. I'm in Newport but driving to Provide/Warwick/Fall River aren't out of the question. Thanks.

I guess from lack of responses there are no hobby shops in either Rhode Island or somewhere near in Massachusetts.

I know that's not the case so those that live up here please throw a guy a bone. Thanks.

Hey Bryan,

If you want a truly great hobby shop, try Spare Time Shop in Marlboro. I know it is a bit of a hike from where you are but I think it is worth the trip. It is a small store but it is packed from floor to the ceiling with kits. It so full that it is actually difficult to walk around narrow walkways.

To get there you would need to hop on 95 North, to 495 North (or West, I am not sure what the sign says) to exit 24A (Rt 20 toward Marlboro). The store is off of Rt 20 in a shopping plaza. Not sure the name of it but it has Ocean State Job Lot, Price Chopper, CVS, Radio Shack, Subway and few other shops.

Sorry - did'nt see your first post or would have got this to you faster. I work in Warwick so here's some local info.

I go to:
A A Hobbies, 655 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick
( it's right about dead center of the state ).
Good selection inc. PE stuff, paints, etc.. Friendly (rare in RI), Reasonable $$$.

I avoid:
Apponaug Hobby (right down the street from the above)
Higher prices, not as good selection or as friendly.

IMHO

Allright, thanks for the info. Warwick's only about 25 minutes away so I think I'll hit AA.

Carl, do you know the hours?

Disregard, I found out the hours. I drove up on Sunday but they were closed. I take a friend of mine to the airport quite a bit and have drive by that shop several times and didn't even realize it was there...lol!

I'm flying out on Friday evening to Jacksonville to see the family for labor day weekend so I'm going to try and stop in before my flight leaves-I think I'm going to have a lot of time to kill.

Thanks for all the info though.

Carl, after labor day weekend, I'd like to setup a time to meet you up there on a Saturday. It's always nice to be able to meet a fellow Armoramaite.
