You might visit your local antique mall to see if they sell extra cases or watch the 'Penny Saver' or equivalent. This 6ft. case came from a local antique mall for $200. You can put a few models in this baby.

A-Train,
Those the correct dimensions? That comes out at 14"x16"x12" Inches. Did you mean CM? Or do you mean a display Base? If so contact me I make custom dio bases.

Why not try using plexi glass..the tools are cheap and so is the material. You can get it at any DIY store and there are several articles online about doing it. YOu might even be able to get the shop where you buy it to make your cuts for you. HTH
cheers,

Scott, Get yourself along to your local pet shop and see if they have any secondhand fish tanks. There's often a wants/for sale list posted there. After a while the silicon gives up and won't hold water, they often get recycled for reptiles or lizards.
No reason why shouldn't hold models too. :-)
They are a bit heavy to move round, but would make an ace display case. Turn it so that the open bit is on the side to wards the wall, you can get plastic runners for glass covers to go in, make up some plywood or MDF panels to fit and you are in business. 1 foot right up to eight foot lengths - lets see a diorama to go in one of those :-)

Here's several ideas.

1. A plexiglas (or equivilent) distributor will make one for you.
2. A plexiglas display manufacturer will, too.
3. I see ads for them in the back of FSM.
4. Don't use glass.
5. Yes, with a few tools, you can make your own. A circular saw to cut, the right cement applied with a hypodermic needle for capillary action with no tape to catch the cement (use spacers to lift the tape from the edges) and mar the surface. A polishing wheel or butane torch to polish the exposed edges. If I can do it, you can. But, watch the cement!
I taught some adult education craft class in doing this and even some women who couildn't get into another sold-out class and ended up in mine did it. And I was a part-owner in a skylight and Plex display manufacturing company.

Make your own is the best option IMHO. Customize for your particular requirements. Mine are roughly 4' x 4' x 12" and I used glass. (No little ones running around.)

I didn't keep track of the costs involved however, I do know that the glass was more expensive than the wood, lighting and the hardware.

I used a #2 pine for the 'frame' and smooth one side plywood for the backing.

And I still have all ten fingers too.
