I've had the DVD for a number of years so I usually never catch it on TV. Why bother if you have the DVD and can watch it anytime? Well there was nothing on tv the other night so I watched it when it was on TCM Channel (Turner Classic Movie). There are scenes in the TV version not on my DVD. The breakout of XXX Corp must be a good 2 minutes longer with more tanks shooting, more air planes bombing and the Germans shooting up Hell's Highway much longer.

Also there are extra house to house battles in Arnhem by the Brits and at Nijmegan by the 82nd.

Is there two versions on DVD?

Fair qstn -
Here's my (maybe unrelated) observation.

One of those channels has a new show called DVD on TV

And they have a new version of an old rerun movie that is the 'less cutting room floor' version than the one that was shown on theateres and VHS.
The original DVD cut was just a reformamted VHS cut
The new ones that are rereleases are lengthier to utilize the extra space a DVD can carry verses a VHS tape.
The TV Channel shows the longer one and their only new content is the stuff you didnt see on the VHS version,
they are usually shown wide screen as well since that is truer to the theatric release.
Did your DVD Version vs. the TCM version have a discernible difference between the two versions in that area???

I know it isnt an snswer, but its an observation...
Sorry

I picked up the original longer DVD version at walmart about a year ago for 8 or 10 bucks. That's where I would check. And yes the German "Tigers" were Leopard 1's with sheet metal tacked on. Not very convincing IMHO. Still, it's my favourite movie of all time, its what me made me want to become a paratrooper.
Cheers,
Bryan
