I go on to Hotmail and Yahoo mail. Sign in and then it brings me to the screen where it says how many messages you have, then it goes right away to the homepage that I get when I start my internet up.
It used to do it to this site, but it has been nice enough to let me on this one. If you have any ideas please let me know!
Thanks!

Went to TrendMirco and scanned it for free. It said that I had no viruses on my PC.
Its strange.

I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in those online "free" virus scans....get yourself a copy of Macafee or Norton with the latest updates and have it scan your drive.
Something you could do is get yourself an Ad Aware program, could be some ad type program hijacking your browser.
Thanks!

i agree with Scott, i went through a few of those b4 when my pc was going "wonky" as one of my good friends likes to say and nothing..even scanned it with Norton, and nothing. I bought McAfee Virus Scan online, downloaded and installed it and found several viruses that other virus scans didnt pick up. Now unfortuneately, damage had been already done that the virus scan couldnt fix, and i had to have my hard drive reformatted, but since then, i may get a virus, but McAfee knocks it right out.

Hey thanks you guys. I used to have Norton but I let it expire. Actually it was a trial deal that came with the computer. I think that maybe I should actually go and get the real deal now. Thanks again guys!

Go to
www.downloads.com and type spybot in the search bar and download "Spybot - Search & Destroy " and install. I love this program finds spy ware and deletes it also finds hi-jiacks for IE i have found a couple on my comp in the past. Best of all its free, you might also want to get adaware for double protection.

I'm with Raf-Mad on that. It sounds more like a spyware than a virus...

I actually ran Spybot earlier today and it took seven adware things off. I forgot to mention that I also ran that, and it still doesn't work.

Chip,
there are some spywares Sbybot is not able to deal with. It happened to me and I had to look for a special targeted spyware removal software. It was a nightmare.
Try to run again spybot and if identifies spywares it told you it removed before go to your fav search engine and make a search for the spyware name and you should find dedicated removal tools...

Hope this helps:
I stopped using Internet Explorer a while back because of home pages getting hijacked and security problems. I now use Opera and have very, very few problems.

Also try this
augment Spybot S& D with AdAware from Lavasoft
http://www.lavasoftusa.com Get the personal (free) version
Also try Mozilla Firefox
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ or Opera
http://www.opera.com/download/?lng=en&ver=7.54 Opera and Firefox are far more superior browsers than Internet Exploder.
And more secure
Adaware & a broswer switch will make you a new man
Good Luck

Chip, what is your homepage?
What you could try (a test to see if in fact a hijacker is taking over) is go to the page where you check your email. Once there, go to the top of your browser and select "Tools", scroll to "Internet Options" and click on the "Use Current" button. Close IE and restart. You should be at your email page. No? You've been hijacked.
Let us know.

Renew your license for Norton, IMHO a much better system than McAfee. Updates are transparent and automatic. You get a little yellow box in the lower right hand corner to let you kknow you've been updated and only have tl cick it okay and you're done. The other guy used to, at least, require you manually connect to their servers, if one was available, then wait as it downloaded, then hope against hope you wouldn't be booted. Finally, when I tried to uninstall, it left files in the boot sequence that required me to physically bypass the search for a missing file

I must be getting hijacked. I did the test that Kencelot told me to do, and it did the same thing that it has been doing. I showed my hotmail messages, and then quickly went to the page it always goes to when it does this, "Search For..."

Chip, what is the page it goes to? Look at the very top of the IE bar, it should have a name. If I know what it is I can help you fix it.

Chip, this seems to be another variant of CoolWebSearch. Go to the page below and follow the instructions. You may want to print it out as it is a long procedure.
