Definitely different, but does it deliver?

"The Village". Writer/director M. Night Shyamalan. Same guy who did "Signs" and "The Sixth Sense". I saw it yesterday. What do you think?

It's not a movie that has to be seen on the big screen. It's a bit wierd, with some unique chills I haven't seen anywhere else. It's a good movie. Could have been very good, at least. It's almost like they didn't try hard enough. I can't comment too much, because the mystery is essential to the suspense. I will say, if you are a real horror buff, you will be let down. It's different, and I think it delivers adequate entertainment, worthy of a matinee admission price. If you're a real fan of M. Night Shyamalan's stuff, of course, give it a whirl.

My wife and I left feeling pretty much the same way. We liked it - but it wasn't quite the "horror" story we expected. I didn't see the twist coming - but I can't help but feel that might be why the audience before us came out looking a bit bewildered - like we did too - after the movie ended...

Shyamalan is a master of the buildup but just doesn't deliver when it counts IMO. I enjoyed The Sixth Sense and saw it on video well after it was out and everyone talked about what a shocking ending there was and all and when I saw the ending I wasn't very shocked. I was like "huh", kinda thought he was a tad cold the way his wife treated him. lol

The same with Signs, good buildup to a weak ending. It wasn't a bad movie but it didn't hook me much, when you build up the suspense that much people expect a good finish and I don't think he's capable of that. Is The Village like that?
