Well the time has just about come. I've started packing up the models and everything that goes alone with them. August 16th, i'll be traveling to South Carolina, Parris Island, for 13 weeks of boot camp UHRAH!!

Looking forward to it, and been preparing for it since I signed up in the DEP. The site has been great, and I'll start posting and all that after training be done.

I wonder if the DI's would allow me to bring a few models to work on at boot camp.

well see ya guys later,
Mike

Congrats Mike on your guts and willingness to serve.
PI is a stange place. You'll remember certain sights and smells forever. The toughest DI of all is the tiny sand flea. They train you hard. I was a recruit in I co 3rd Bn, and a few years later a DI there. I picked up my first platoon in the exact squadbay I was a recruit in. DI's love instant obediance to orders, and recruits who really try hard. It has been almost 18 years for me, some things have changed, but much has remained the same. Stay humble, hard, speak loudly, and move FAST, do exactly as your told, and DON'T mess with the DI's, and you will do well. If you get down in the dumps, remember your buds back on the block doing nothing and that will motivate you. Rifle range, PFT's, and the rest take care of themselves. Sorry I jumped on you like this, once a Marine always a Marine, and I like to see new recruits excel. God bless.

Yeah, sure. Sleep will be a lot more important even if they let you have.. And if got a book torn up a DI for the heck of it then I'm sure one of them would love to plant a boot in a model you are working on.

Way to go Mike! You're about to embark on the greatest journey of your life, Marine Corps Boot Camp on PI. As Tom pointed out, move fast and have an instant obedience to orders. We even had a saying for it which I'm sure is still around (D-I-S-C-P-L-I-N-E! DISCIPLINE! DISCIPLINE! DISCIPLINE! DISCIPLINE IS THE INSTANT, WILLING OBEDIENCE TO ORDERS!) so think of us as you're screaming it at the top of your lungs.

Don't EVER forget to say "by your leave Sir!" when you pass a DI from behind, you WILL be on the quarterdeck. First and last words out of your mouth are always "SIR!" and you no longer exist in the first person as you pointed out in your thread title, it's always "this recruit".

Learn your "knowledge", if you haven't started already I'd recommend getting a hold of an Essential Subjects book from your recruiter. KNOW your General Orders, it will help get you a good start. The rest your Drill Instructors will teach you on the Island, listen to them.

Best of luck to you and we're all behind you here, check back in when you're done with recruit training.

Enjoy "The Pit".

one little tip for you, buy a bottle used for watering plants set it to a fine mist and spray it all over the area you want to iron gives a super sharp crease and helps get rid of the akward creases alot quicker. bottle will cost you £1 and will save you alot of time on your kit.
enjoy your training and look on the bright side it's only 10 weeks mines was 9 months

Even though you here about the riverly between the Army and the Marines, we're still brothers in arms and you are about to become a member of that brotherhood. You might wear a different uniform than me, but we all fight for the same country, and i would do anything for my fellow brothers in arms, new recruit or old veteran.

Good luck and enjoy every moment of this new journey.

I don't really think you'll have much time for modelling in those 13 weeks ..might as well just leave em at home till you know where you are going to be stationed...Congrats and good luck ....Keep your head down!

Good luck, Marine! I went into Army boot camp in 1965,
and I learned to hate it, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything! I learned how to survive and It kept me alive!
All the best.

Thanks for your willingness to serve. Hang tough and remember, boot camp doesn't last forever, but the awesome memories you'll create can never be taken from you. You'll have so much to look back on and to be proud of someday....
It's all about your attitude. Just give 110% at all times....your DI's are watching, even when you don't think they are...
If you're so inclinded, a Bible sure comes in handy when you need to be uplifted and encouraged....God bless you fellow Buckeye!
