Hi SgtDinkyduck, I've never used Testors dullcoat, but with all the other brands I've used I've found that they require a lot of stiring, or if in an aerosol a lot of shaking to make sure they are thoroughly mixed. If not they can give a slightly shiny sheen.

I agree you have either to shake very well the can or to check that i'ts not gone off. I never used the spray can, I use only Testors dullcote and I never had a problem for not being enough dull...

Sometimes it takes a couple of days to work its magic. Found spray it one....wait 2 days, if need be go back and spray a second time after another couple of days it has generally worked quite well

The same thing happened to me a while ago, I forgot to shake the bottle and it got really shiny, so try that out. also apply many thin coats instead of one thick one

Testors Dullcote in the Spray can never gives a Dead flat finnish in my opinion, no matter how long I shook it. So I started using testors Dullcote in a jar thinned with Mineral spirits at about 30%. Sprayed throught the airbrush I get Dead Flat finnishes. HTH

DinkyDuck(man, really gotta watch you don't slip a keystroke on that one, eh
)- Have you tried warming the can slightly in warm[EDIT-NOT HOT!] water before shaking it? I find this helps immensely with distributing the varnish through the carrier medium. Good luck!

The can has this problem on a regualr basis. If it's too cold, it'll dry shiny; if it's not shaken enough it'll dry shiny. The bottle has the advatage here in that you can see when emusion and "pigment" are fully mixed.
If you don't have an airbrush, you might want to consider going to Polly Scale flat. It loooks white inthe jar but dries dead flat and can be brushed.

yes u have to shake it really well,
and run the can undre warm water.
so it comes out better,
i just used the can of dull coat and it was good,
and if u really wanna have a nice dull coat.
use polly scale dullcoat,
i been messing around to find the right dull coat.
and polly scale as soon as it dryies it dulls,
so u might wanna try this.
its a green bottel

Some years back a customer build allowed me to use a Testors Dullcoat 'spraybomb' and can report it dries shiney and THICK. For decades I have used Dullcoat from the bottle reduced with lacquer thinner as the stuff dries flat and clear every time. When correctly thinned and airbrushed Testors Dullcoat in the bottle is a reliable, predictable product

You may want to give Testors MM acrylic gloss and flat coats a try
The flat coat acrylic is really great What I really love about acrylic gloss and flat,is that it doesn't darken up the paint job
If you do try this version,be sure not to spray in a real humid or if it's too cool If you do it will dry shiny
